Thank you so much!
Exactly, although I'd be interested to see a bright pink tort as long as it was healthy for them to be that way! Glad to hear that you agree though and that I'm not being crazy or over cautious.
There shouldn't be. The water was poured into the hole where the pond was, as...
Hi all. This might sound like a silly question, but when it comes to our tort, we'd rather be safe then sorry!
Context:
We had a pond in our garden that stunk like rotten eggs (nothing lives in there, so it's been neglected. The water even turned bright pink!), so we decided to get rid of it...
Hi @sully_baby. Apologies for not responding sooner, I've only just seen this thread. @Littleredfootbigredheart tagged me as I was in somewhat of a similar position a while ago. The enclosure my sully was in, he was quickly out growing and was reaching the size where it's best to house them...
Mark, I don't know what else to say other then thank you so much for sharing. Very insightful and helpful - You've pretty much answered any and all questions I had. Much appreciated!
Thanks for confirming - much appreciated. Regarding using a rheostat, the only ones I'm able to find over here in the UK are without timers and so would need to be plugged into one, but due to the shape of the rheostat & timer they wouldn't fit together. They also seem "cheap". As in, of poor...
I second your message. Would be very interested in what others have to say and the pros/cons of these heating methods. Hopefully they see this and can give some insight.
What do you do when there are those 20 degree odd swings if you're not in or are away on holiday? Over here the weather can be a bit unpredictable and can change like that, especially whilst I'm at work and that's something I'd worry about. Would it not be "better" to control the ambient...
I'm not sure about @EppsDynasty, but the thermostat/rheostat I have has a temperature probe, and so works almost the same way a thermostat would, expect the way the power is distributed is different. Rather then turning off, then on again at 100%, it just reduces the power output to the heat...
Thanks for sharing those videos, they were very informative and helpful. Definitely agree as well that everyone has something to learn!
As for thermostats, the ones I have allows you to switch between different power distribution methods, for example, on/off, pulse and then also rheostat. I was...
Wow, they are some pretty big boys. Thanks for sharing too - much appreciated. I'd planned to set it to whatever and then adjust accordingly based on the temperature of my tort, but also didn't want to hurt him and if somebody has already found out the "ideal" temperature setting, then I'd...
Thanks for sharing. I'll start off with 30c on the thermostat, see how that heats him up and then adjust accordingly from there. As for the ambient lighting, he's got some in his enclosure already which have worked great. A bit whiter and brighter then I expected, but if that's what he needs...
The only reason as to why I hadn't planned to give my tort access to the garden with the weather being cold is because most days I'm at work and would be petrified that he would just settle down outside and not come back in. Perhaps I'll start doing this with him once I get home from work and on...
Same here. From what I've read, mainly on here, I thought that the issue with using heat lamps on larger torts is that it can burn their shells. Plus, it doesn't properly heat up their inside. I could be wrong, but that was always my understanding, hence the switch from bulbs to the panel & heat...
