Hatching a tort without the egg shell-Science nerds check it out.

Tortoises and turtles do attach to their shells, That is why you can't turn eggs from the position that they are laid in. The first day or so is okay. Once they have attached, turning them can kill the embryo.

    AZ Tortoise keeper's almost-anything-goes thread

95 sounds pretty comfortable to me.We are looking forward for the temp to drop to 100. My Stars and Leopards usually don't come out until evening, and don't lay until dark.

That is what I thought, but in the video, they were not turned. Maybe because they are turned so that they don't stick to the shell, and the embryo don't stick to the plastic.

    MVB-- Latest Opinions?

He said she been egg bound, and it got infected. He said "possibly" she was not assimilating enough of the calcium. They eat Mazuri, Reptomin, etc. and always have cuttlebone available.

    MVB-- Latest Opinions?

I keep most of my turtles, and tortoises outside, all year long. In the last few years, I have a few large indoor set ups. Mostly with water turtles. Over those years, I have lost a few gravid females. When I had my most recent necropsy, the vet suggested that using a MVB should help the...

    Another Caramel clutch

Today I dug up my Caramel's laying area, and unexpectedly found 8 eggs. Unfortunately, I busted the first one. There were 7 more. Like the 10 from the other female, they were a little small, but it is the first clutches from both young females. I do not have high hopes on fertility, being it is...
