That tortoise looks very sick with possible septicemia, you will need to see a vet asap. Systemic antibiotics, fluid therapy, and nutritional support are needed. I would seek out an exotic vet asap.

If you are unable to use injectable antibiotics, you could consider using a nebulizer but you would need the appropriate antibiotic made up in the right solution, basically the tort goes in a plastic box and you do sessions with the tort breathing in the nebulized antibiotic

Returned from vet’s office. The vet said the abrasions are from the sharp shell edges. They ground the edges to make them smoother. She said to keep the areas clean and keep applying the triple antibiotic ointment and the areas should heal. She said it did not look infected but to keep...

How do tortoises deal with sharp edges in the wild or does it not occur for some reason in the wild?

Thanks, yes I’ll keep that in mind. I think several areas will have to be filed down because there is a sharp piece near the neck too which has caused another abrasion I didn’t notice at first.

Yes, I completely agree and have encountered my fair share of incompetent but well meaning vets that know nothing about tortoises. This exotic vet I’m going to though is very good and I’ve had really excellent care there so far. That being said, I always do my own research and no longer blindly...

Thank you for the recommendation on the spray. It is white in some areas but in a few spots there is slight pink showing through. It’s definitely raw and looks painful which is why we are going to the vet Thursday. I thought maybe it might be an allergy but I haven’t introduced anything new and...

I meant like a sunburn from the uvb tube light being too close possibly, which is why I raised it a few inches. I have also noticed she does not like the uvb light and tries to avoid it if possible so perhaps she will tolerate it more now that it has been raised a bit higher.
