I've noticed for some time that the traffic on TFO has dropped. So I'm bringing this thread back to life. I'm still doing what I do with rheostats, gave up on thermostats. The tortoises are doing fine and growing nicely. Sulcatas can be kept in cold weather areas with a little extra effort and...
What I do with hatching hermanns if any eggs hatch from my adults. I set them up the same as eastern box turtles hatchlings. Except for their diet and lightning they're pretty much the same. They even can burmate like box turtles do in Salisbury. I've never had any signs of shell rot or...
Maybe Ray Singleton, can't be sure. I did have many dealings with Florida Wholesaler's but the only one coming to mind is Charles Chase. The first adult radiated tortoises I saw were in North Carolina in the early 70s. I don't remember his name at the moment but he ended up being involved with...
That long ago, I'd bet that you knew and dealt with some of the same people I knew and dealt with because there weren't that many of us. No communication except landline calls and Polaroid pics sent snail mail. You are just a few years older than me.
Lucky You. Most people have never seen a flying squirrel because they are mostly nocturnal. They were quite prevalent back in the 50s and early 60s where I grew up.That was a small town just outside the main gate of Andrews Air Force Base. It was country back then. Progress changed that. The...
The last I bought has 3 sending units that give the temps and humidity levels. I found it at Amazon under UNNI. At that time the price was $23. It doesn't come with batteries. 3aaa and 6aa are needed. Search unni and it should link up with Amazon and a few other sellers.
I've always been fascinated by bats here in the eastern US. None are the size of what you are talking about. Back in the 1970s I came across a bat struggling on the ground trying to crawl. That's when I realized that a bat can't take off and fly from the ground. I picked it up and found a good...
Why don't you just get some wireless indoor - outdoor thermometers. I'm setting here at midnight and can see the temps in each of the sulcatas four houses. It saves stress and worry.
This is the last cactus fruit 2025 I have for my four sulcatas. They love them but will have to wait until next fall for more. We are now on their winter diet of mazuri, rehydrated grass and weeds I collected during our growing season, opuntia pads and store bought collards.
Propergation pads under the tray should eliminate the need for any insulation. They are safe to use and are low wattage which keeps the cost down. I was doing a job at the Dept of Agriculture in Beltsville Maryland many years ago and they were disposing of a number of the pads so I took them and...
