Can a ceramic heat emitter be used as the main heat lamp?

He’s a Russian. You think it’s fine to keep it at like 100 degrees day and night? I mean the spot directly under the che At night it can get to 63 degrees but mostly it’s 68-69. Right now his substrate is really moist because it was coconut coir bricks that had to be submerged in water. Worried...

Can a ceramic heat emitter be used as the main heat lamp?

Reason being is that my room gets pretty cold at night, so I think I’d need one anyway. However I don’t have much space to add yet another light to hang on the wooden bar I’m using to hang his current lights (uvb and heat). I was wondering then can I just use a che all the time? Use it to...

Temporary tortoise set up? I’m moving

Thanks for the help, gonna buy one of those large plastic containers and use my old mvb suspended over it via an adjustable stand. Will probably cut some extra holes in the sides of the container for more ventilation. I’ll try to find the heat packs, don’t want the container to get too hot however

Temporary tortoise set up? I’m moving

I’m moving from MA to IL by car. Total trip will be 16 hours, with one night in a hotel. Then we will stay in another hotel in IL for a week at the most. I wont be able to setup his main enclosure until we get to the new house. My question is, do you guys have any suggestions for a temporary...

VERY Inactive Russian tortoise, not normal with him

Sorry, it only took the rock 9 minutes to get to 100 degrees.

VERY Inactive Russian tortoise, not normal with him

Coming back here to ask a question and also to clear something up. When I said he spends a lot of time by the heat lamp, I did not mean directly under it, only a little ways away (but not too far, just in a corner) The reason for this I think I realize: I always tested the temp by pointing the...

VERY Inactive Russian tortoise, not normal with him

Ok thanks for the advice. I ordered another thermometer, same as the my current one but a newer model. Going to double check if the temps are accurate

VERY Inactive Russian tortoise, not normal with him

By the way this is the link to the thermometer I’ve been using. I have had it for a couple months now https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08Q3K43BC/?tag=exoticpetnetw-20

VERY Inactive Russian tortoise, not normal with him

It does get to 100, I meant as in where I am pointing the thermometer. Directly underneath gets hot. Around that is 90-99. He is sleeping very close to it but I am telling you it is pretty hot, even if it was not hot enough I don’t think he’d spend 24 hours by it. I actually had to increase the...

VERY Inactive Russian tortoise, not normal with him

Sorry for not responding. Below is most recent photo of him and then one half of his enclosure. I am using an infrared thermometer to check the temperatures Picture of what the fungus/mark used to look like. It’s not as bad but there is still a somewhat visible film around the edges

VERY Inactive Russian tortoise, not normal with him

My russian tortoise is around 6-7 years old. I posted a while ago about a possible fungal problem with his shell. Some of you did not know what is was, someone said it is new shell growth, another suggested using athlete's foot cream. I used the foot cream daily for a couple a weeks and it...

Possible emergency: tortoise might have fungus on shell

Is there a reason you want to remove the guard wires? I have it there for safety, in case it falls

Possible emergency: tortoise might have fungus on shell

Humidity at this moment is 24%, but that’s by only one end of his enclosure. I’ve tried adding cups of water to his substrate but it’s takes literal buckets to make it even remotely moist, and by then end of day it’s dried out anyway. I said I try to compensate by giving him three soaks a week...

Possible emergency: tortoise might have fungus on shell

Betadine is a no, but what about the athletes foot cream? If it is just as you said, would the cream harm the growth? I want to use something just in case. Also this spot used to be closed. It at first was a little bump on his shell. Now it’s opened to this. I honestly don’t know what it is...
