I use a mix of coco coir and sand for my Greek tortoise (70/30 mix). it holds humidity well and gives enough structure for digging. I don’t see many people use orchid bark but I have seen repti bark used for structure but that can be expensive.
To my knowledge it’s probably fine. Losing scales isn’t normal from what I know, she could have just bumped her head on something however. It will likely heal on its own. How’s temps and humidity?

Don’t worry, when I posted my first indoor enclosure on here I got destroyed with knowledge, I had a concrete tub with no top and coil uvb bulbs. It’s all about making the little dudes happy! Enjoy the new tortoise 😃

What’s the best way to hang CHE’s? I was thinking hanging the domes on cup hooks screwing them through the top… just not sure if the heat will sufficiently get to the ground level. They are only 2 feet high so I may be overthinking it but.
