Thanks. Would the night box be something he'd just wander into, or could/would it be something stand alone that you'd put him in each night? (just thinking about space in the pen!)
So the CHE would be in a nightbox? I read the CHE needs to be 30cm from the tortoise, so the nightbox would have to be fairly big??
In this scenario, lamp would be on in the day and CHE at night?
Yep - the thermostat is above and to the left of the CHE, so should be picking up more ambient temperature (obviously there will be cooler parts of the coldframe)
Thanks - yep, one attached. Currently maintaining it at 30c throughout the day and night, but wondering if that's too hot for the night? Wondering if it should be more like 15c at night?
Righty - here are some pics. Obvious improvements I can make: I read the thing about not having a ramped bowl last night! I can get that sorted.
Also we had quite a lot of rain last night, and some of it seeped under the cold frame (all sealed above from the rain though, so that's good). So I...
Thanks - I'll have a read through those.
To clarify - he's outside. Perhaps 'basking' was the wrong word - I meant gathering heat! I had understood that he wouldn't need a lamp outside because of the natural light and that a CHE would provide the heat needed (he sits directly under it...
Hi! New tortoise owner here. We've got a Spur-thighed, about 15 years old.
We've got a small cold-frame for him with a CHE inside. He's loving basking under it!
We have it set on the thermostat to keep it at 30c - is that correct?
Do we need to keep it at that temperature during the night too or...
