What temperature do you set the thermostat for the radiant heat panel and Kane heat pad? If the temp is set to 80 degrees in the tortoise house, will the Kane heat pad temp rise to 117 degrees when it reaches that desired temp (knowing that Kane heat pads can rise 37 degrees higher than ambient...
Thank you so much for the information. I just purchased a reptile dimming thermostat on Amazon but curious how it monitors the temp of the mat. Does the probe need to be on top of the mat? How does that work? Sorry I’m a newbie with the mat 😞
I only have the mat turned on in the morning for a couple of hours when the ambient temps are around 75 degrees. I guess I’m confused because other threads have said the Kane mats are designed in a way that can’t burn the tortoise, and to use a thermostat to monitor the temps.
Question
I have a question on the Kane heat mat? My sulcata tortoise (8.5 pounds) is outdoors during the day. I live in Southern California so temps have been above 70 degrees and sunny. For night time, I bring him indoors since the temps are dropping in the 50-60s … 4 x 8 enclosure in garage...
Hi! I did this same setup last night but the ambient temp kept rising too far above the selected temperature. I have the 18x18 Kane mat and 80 watt RHP plugged into same thermostat. The outdoor temp was 65. I set the thermostat inside the box to 78 degrees with 1 degree differential. The heat...
Night time temps are around 60f (California) so not very cold. Do I need both RHP and Kane mat for these temps? I’ve been using only the RHP over the past month and it’s kept the ambient temp in the night box between 77-82. Not sure if the fluctuation in temp is okay though.
I’m also pretty new to this forum and have some questions on the night time temperature for a juvenile Sulcata Tortoise. I have the 80 watt RHP and 18x18 Kane Mat, hooked up to an INKBIRD thermostat. Is there a reason for putting the temp gauge on the cooler side of the night box?
Hi Tom, I need some advice on heating my Sulcata tortoise night box. The house is approximately 2x4x2 with some insulation. I live in So Cal so the temps are around high 50’s to mid 60’s at night. I bought the VE 80 watt RHP for the top of the box, attached to the INKBIRD thermostat and a short...
