That is very interesting... and that I'm reading this today (12/17/25) that my tort has passed stool 3 days in a row (which is not terribly normal). There was a low burden result for parasite back in October and we treated accordingly. I need to take a sample to the veterinarian for fecal...
Thanks!
Well I felt back in early October we were in crisis because the tissue didn’t go back in for 2 hours with soaking and sugar soaking. We called 8 places and finally an hour away we were able to get in. The repositioned the tissue and did “purse string” sutures. The prolapse we saw that...
Thanks! I did see a specialist who also thought this could have something to do with "tortoise puberty" (my words not the doctor's words). The doctor felt this could be more behavioral and less clinical and to keep an eye on the tort. I do have photos on my phone. I can't post them now, but...
Thank you! This is really helpful and enlightening information.
I took the tortoise to a specialist who stated that this could be a hormonal behavior. The tortoise is usually "extended" in the enclosure, but brings the tissue back in on its own after a soak. I'm finding this all very...
Thanks
Yes X-rays are normal
No straining to pee
Before this I had not noticed any straining to pee but did notice more frequent bowel movements and ONE time stool shot out (small piece) like a pin ball in a game. I didn’t see that again.
I’m grateful for the reoly
We don’t know gender yet
Looking for a little advice.
Early October my 3yr old red foot experienced cloacal prolapse. The prolapse was repositioned by a local animal hospital. Tortoise received anti-inflammatory injections and antibiotics
3 weeks later on the day the sutures were removed a “slight prolapse” or...
Thanks! I did add more hides and a few artificial plants that sit high so she fits under but can't reach to try to eat. It is really all I can do until Monday (10/27) when the stitches are removed. Just hard to watch her upset and anxious. She never bites at my fingers or "charges" anything...
So almost 2 weeks later, I am posting that Lightning is physically on the mend and healing as she/he should.
For which I am very grateful.
Has anyone here had experience with post-surgical medications? The animal hospital prescribed just yesterday a compound of Gabapentin. I don't think...
I'm glad you said that-I have reduced portions but been feeding regular greens. No diet advice from the hospital doctor. I did give soaked Mazuri this morning with mustard greens. No soaking at all (according to the hospital) so I put a water dish in with food and remove it. I'll put it...
Littleredfootbigredheart,
Thank you for your kind words and for sharing those options from Alex!! I have copy/pasted that information in my baby's diary!
Much love,
-Lightning's Mom
Thank you Alex and the Redfoot! I'm so grateful for your kind, thorough and quick responses!
There was an X-Ray which did not show any abnormalities and no eggs.
We are waiting on blood results.
I'm waiting for my baby to "make a deposit" so that I can run the sample up to the doctor. Poor...
Thank you great question.
I didn't see much difference in frequency, but I did notice a larger amount being passed and one day it seemed a little difficult for Lightning to pass stool. It was only one time about a week ago, so I didn't worry too much. If I saw that again I for sure would have...
