Thankyou all for your prompt replies, sort of what we thought but expert opinion is so much appreciated. Were very happy with this answer and our tortoise will remain a loner (if a little confused around June or July without female company)

Have an 18 yr old Male Redfoot since baby, always been on his own. Seems very happy, healthy and content except in early summer when looking for a mate. At this age should/could I add another redfoot ? have option of an 8 year old healthy female. Dont know if they will fight/pester each other...
