Yes I think you are right about the difficulties travelling with the tortoise. I guess I will have to find someone trustworthy that has a suitable place to keep it safe hopefully. Still I feel worried about what might happen to it... It seems a bit nervous and vulnerable.
You are right that...
Thank you. Yes I am currently in Syria but I am going to London after a few months. I guess I will have to find out more from here about the laws and what to do... Anyway Thank you for your help and your replies and to others who have replied.
I have read that tortoises can also be shipped to other countries rather than go by plane. I guess they would also need to be cites certified? And all the same rules apply... Possibly confiscated etc?
I am in Syria and bought it in the market here... Here they call it a Syrian tortoise, but obviously in other countries they call it other names such as Greek etc. I guess this was one reason for confusion. When I contacted cites they just asked for the latin name.
I agree with you...
I also looked it up online and it said that without cites and papers showing ownership a person might be imprisoned for up to 7 years and May have to pay an unimited fine. So yes it is not lite.
I guess I never really thought that someone would sell an engangered species...
Thank you... I think you are right.. I looked it upon Google and it looks like the pictures showng there. I also went back to the person who sold it to me. He just called it a "Syrian tortoise" then added "wild Syrian tortoise" I looked that up online too and that is usually the Golden greek...
I had thought the pictures had loaded but I guess they didnt... Hope these are enough and clear to show the tortoise type
Thank you so much for your time
This tortoise I bought recently from a market and they did not tell me the breed or give any information or papers. I would like to know the type and whether it it is citesnprotected. If I travel with it will I need cites?
