Lettuce is not very interesting for feeding tortoises. Too much water, and a terrible Ca/P ratio
However, it can be given some times. I only feed with lettuce when I REALLY have nothing but lettuce at home. But I am a naturalist, I always try to feed my tortoise with the herbs they eat in situ...
I can understand your feeling about it, however that's what happens. I mean, there's necessary to understand that roadkill is primarily one of the first (probably the first) reason of decrease of wild populations. That is part of the herping trip too.
It is so sad...and it really happens often...

sulcatas are fast growing tortoises, I suggest you to plan to change your enclosure.
The bigger, the better! that's what breeding sulcata mean ;-)
Well, I also agree that full-sand substrate can be problematic (they can eat sand, whihch can be...
Very very bad idea...
Never mixing species is a golden rule
Particularly with those species, who come from very different place, have a BIG size difference, behavior etc.
Actually, I already bought that book, which is very good and easy to read (as English is not my mother tongue...)
i'm sooo bored that I can't even find a CB baby.
Some months ago, I tried to know if I could import some from Thailand (a company sell some CB babies with permits) or from a US pet...
Thanks :)
Wow what a bunch of rare Graeca you own robyn
T. graeca antakyensis are very difficult to obtain in France, as most graeca species (as we have a lot of illegal trade tortoises which are offered, our local policy is very strict... and there is no export with the countries related to...
