Sorry you are dealing with this! It can be so frustrating. My male Hermann scratches at his enclosure several times a day. I let him out(supervised) and let him cruise the house until he stops. When I put him back in his enclosure, he is tired by then and crashes in his cave.
My sister has a...
Same with the greens! And dried flowers - I spent so much on a huge variety and my redfoot turns his nose at them. But he's all over his own floaters in the tub
Thanks! I had no idea about shrimp. He eats just about anything (and tries going for things he should not) so I think I'll have luck introducing new food
Since I joined this site I've been questioning everything I've been told regarding care for my tortoises. I have a question for the more experienced redfoot keepers- what is the best source of protein for a 4 year old Cherry Head? And how often/ what amount? I've had him for almost 2 years and...
That's a shame. I have adopted from 2 in Ohio and one in Michigan and can't sing enough praise about all the good they do. Not only taking in owner surrenders (and ones left on their doorstep overnight) but also working with animal control to rehabilitate and rehome rescues from hoarding...
I would never advocate for getting an animal from a pet store, especially one like Petco. You'd be surprised how many reptile rescues are out there! A reputable rescue organization won't adopt out an animal until they pass vet inspection.
I worked for Petco when I was 18 till 22. The treatment of the reptiles was a total joke. Insufficient lighting, heat, and humidity in 90% of the enclosures. My concerns fell on deaf ears the entire time. It makes me sick to think about. Animals died all the time, especially the tree frogs...
Lettuce (even when dusted with calcium and vitamin supplements) doesn't provide anything close to the nutrition that a tortoise needs. Search the breed-specific forums on here. Lots of the mediterranean species, like yours, have similar dietary requirements.
Two of my tortoises were fed only...
I forgot to add, most emergency vets offer Care Credit. They have promo periods with no interest. I know emergency visits can be expensive. It helped me tremendously when my dog's spleen burst & had to be rushed to the clinic. I have no idea of your situation, but I just want to throw this out...
Great job, this looks awesome! Are you going to make a "railing" on the ramp, so the tortoise can't tumble off? A quick Google search & I found an example
Thank you for your reply. My Leopards are housed separately. I adopted them as a pair and I guess the previous owner kept them together for some reason.
