I only really fed him green leaves when I posted this (which I now know is the wrong thing - there needs to be variety) however I have changed his diet since then to a mix of things and the pee is still pink, but that could be expected now as he now has radicchio. But before this it was pink...
I have changed his vet and his substrate. I changed the substrate to orchid bark, however the pieces were too big for him and so I have changed it to coco coir. The food is still a struggle. The food I am growing is not growing well as it is not the right season. I have got him the crispy salad...
Thank you for your help. I have found a new vet and if I am concerned about any health issues I will make sure he has been tested before treatment - this is what I should do, right? The worming treatment was just a liquid that they said treats worms. The vet didn’t specifically say a type of...
The enclosure has a lid but it’s just like a metal grate and is only there to stop the cat getting in. I can’t have the heating on during week days (from 8:00am to 3:00pm) as my parents won't let me, and I can’t change his enclosure as it was expensive and I can’t afford another one. Thank you...
The bulb is a spotlight bulb and I’ve changed it to a 75 watt one, however the temps vary as when the heating is on in the house it reaches about 35 degrees Celsius and when the heating isn’t on it bearly reaches 30 - this is what the temperature gun says after being calibrated. With the heating...
The vet didn’t take a fecal sample and I haven’t seen any worms in his poo. So I should be alright to let the vet worm him? The vet said they would use some liquid. I just want to be sure that he is alright and definitely doesn’t have worms.
I will try to get some mazuri. I struggle with finding food for him as I bought some tortoise feed seeds but it is winter and they are not growing very well. The vet recommended kale to me and I’m not sure what else to get from the store. I will try to find better things to feed him. The vet...
I took my 1 year old Russian tortoise to the vets (just for a check-up) and they said they could worm him if he hadn’t already been wormed by the place we bought him from. I wasn’t aware the tortoises needed worming but the vet said that young tortoises that are kept together can often have...
I feed him green leaves and kale. I feed him two piles of food a day, about the amount you would need to cover his shell (both piles are this size). He usually doesn’t eat it all however. And I sprinkle calcium powder on one of his meals everyday. He seems to go through phases of eating lots and...
Ok. The bulb is 30cm away and I will try callibrating the temperature gun and measuring again tomorrow as I’ve turned my tortoises lights off for the night. I have tested the gun on in other places and the readings seem to make sense however I will try again tomorrow. Thank you for your help.
I weighed my 1 year old tortoise today and am concerned with the results. I have not had him very long but here are his weights so far:
1/7/18 - 59 grams
29/7/18 - 68 grams
31/8/18 - 72 grams
3/10/18 - 68 grams
I am concerned about him loosing weight as he is a growing tortoise. Is this...
My 1 year old Russian tortoise has been having pink instead of white pee and it is concerning my. We don’t feed him dandelion or any other food I have read can cause pink pee and I’m worried it might be blood. He seems fine other than this a part from that he doesn’t poo very often (twice a...
I recently got a 1 year old horsefield tortoise and thought his temperatures were fine as I was using a 100W bulb and a temperature gage on the side of the cage said it was 30 - 35 degrees Celsius. However I recently got a temperature gun that says the temperature directly under the bulb is...
