    How's Stella doing?

Thanks for the replies everyone! I'm glad to know that I'm doing something right with Stella. One of my biggest fears getting a tortoise is that I'd cause pyramiding or MBD and I really didn't want to do that to my favourite animal! I lucked out when I picked her from the litter, she's a great...

    How's Stella doing?

It feels like forever since I brought Stella home (though it's only been about a year). Thought I'd post a few pics and ask the experts how they think she's looking! I like to think I'm doing OK in terms of pyramiding and the like but I'm very doubtful of myself on the best of days.

    Transporting Stella for short distances

That's good to know! I'll see what I have that would work.

    Transporting Stella for short distances

Understood. I don't intend to take Stella out any more than necessary- this is the first time since I got her, in fact- but I thought I should ask so I'm ready for essential trips, such as vet visits and the like.

    Transporting Stella for short distances

I'm planning on taking Stella out to see relations at some point soon and was wondering if I'm missing anything vital she might want in her carrier. It's a small critter carrier that looks like this, and measures roughly 28x19x18cm, with opaque sides to ensure that she isn't overly stressed by...

Adding a ramp to Stella's viv?

I admit to being concerned as well, but I will be keeping an eye on her and reinforcing if necessary. Stella is still small (only about 6cm SCL!) so I'm not too worried about her doing too much damage right now!

Adding a ramp to Stella's viv?

Amazing ideas, and thanks for the references! I'll get some popsicle sticks and my hot glue gun and get to modifying :D

Adding a ramp to Stella's viv?

That's not a bad idea. So, like, create a ramp using substrate to allow Stella to climb atop it?

Adding a ramp to Stella's viv?

I'd like to add a bit of verticality to Stella's viv, for enrichment mostly. My original plan was to buy a guinea pig 'castle' such as this: However, now I think about it, I realise that she already has a 'fort' of sorts with her humid hide, which is big enough to fill a considerable portion of...

    Thoughts on WIP enclosure?

That's something I intend to include; for now, I'll lower the bulb a couple notches and see if that makes a difference?

    Thoughts on WIP enclosure?

    1. It gets around 33-34°c (91-93°f). 2. Done. 3. Done. It's slightly shadowed in the corner where the basking bulb sits, but it still gets lit. Thanks for the checklist!

    Thoughts on WIP enclosure?

@Alex and the Redfoot I've gone out and found a smaller saucer with sloped edges; I've also taken your suggestion to mount the basking lamp with a chain (there's enough slack on that length of chain to allow me to alter the height as necessary). What do you think?

    Thoughts on WIP enclosure?

Yeah, I've seen a fair few googling for it! Like I said, I will be replacing the big saucer with one of the two before tort moves in, I just don't want to make a whole online order for something so comparatively small, y'know?

    Thoughts on WIP enclosure?

I have! Unfortunately, not for lack of trying, I simply haven't come across one. I will be replacing the big ol' saucer in there before tort moves in; the only question is with what. It'll either be a clay terracotta one as you suggest, or a shallow one designed for torts such as the one in the...

    Thoughts on WIP enclosure?

That was my original plan, tbh; but I thought perhaps a stand would be easier to adjust. Got some chain on the way that I will use instead; perhaps when tort is bigger and living in a proper table I can make use of the stand once again!
