Last week my 5 year old sulcata tortoise passed away. It seemed to happen very fast, but looking back there may have been some signs she wasn't well, and I was too busy/distracted by other things (quitting a job I've been at for 3 years, trying to finish my thesis in a couple weeks) to have the...
I have a plastic, clear packing thing (34" x 18") that I keep them in because they were in a fish aquarium that was deep and not wide. I got a bigger filter for them and they have a basking spot and the lights. They smell really bad though, and it's a time consuming workout to change the water...
I just wanted to know if anyone thought I could have my 2 red eared sliders (they are about 5 years old and hearty) live outside year round in very cold North Dakota. There are many RES's in North Dakota, so it's not impossible, but they are moderately invasive, which is why I adopted them a...
I'm not 100% sure if there are other turtles in this pond, but probably because there are fish and bugs and ducks. He's adorable, but this is probably best for me and him.
That's what I prefer to do, since it was wild as of yesterday. I just don't want to shock it by bringing it in a tank, and then putting it in a new pond all within 2 days, as it's small. Do you think it would be ok? I'm finding 4 turtles to be a bit much in my 1 bedroom apartment :P
They are native to my area, and there are a lot of wet lands and ponds in eastern Montana (where I was) so it easily could have been from about a mile out of town or something. I just didn't see anywhere it could hibernate with winter coming! It already has been reaching freezing some nights up...
So I made a mistake and I need help fixing it.
Yesterday I was looking at a house to buy and my parents were there for their input and there was a baby painted turtle just randomly at the side of the house. My step dad talked me into taking it home, as there was no water around and it was near...
I also learned that 50% of an adult diet should be vegetation, which is great news since I already have a sulcata tortoise that only eats leafy greens. Thanks again, I'm feeling much better about this. I wasn't actively looking to expand my turtle family, but it was me or they get released in...
Awesome, thank you! I wasn't sure if I was ready for the feeding pets to pets carnage anyways. I just hope an instant change isn't a problem, but I'm sure as long as it's protein packed it will be fine, after reading that.
