Another life update on Shelly! She's now 300g! Almost 2x growth in 6 months. 😊 She's eating well and her beak is starting to regrow. Happy that her shell is looking good too! Thank you for all the support! For those experiencing difficulties, there is hope. Just keep at it and be patient. They...

My Sulcata hatchling has Austwickia Chelonae

Update on Shelly: Here is Shelly a year since I got her. She was diagnosed with Austwickia Chelonae last Sep2024. I’ve observed significant growth from May 2025 from 73g and today at 171g. Comparing that from Sep2024 only at around 60g. This forum is super helpful and encouraged me to be a more...

    Asymmetrical Plastron

I have a 1 year old Sulcata. Shelly suffered Austwickia Chelonae on her first 8 months but has started showing recovery and growth in the last 4 months. However, I noticed that her upper right plastron does seem to grow symmetrically with the other parts. Should I be concerned? No signs of...

My Sulcata hatchling has Austwickia Chelonae

Re: Yellow bumps - I only noticed one bump which I took out and it was huge. The Vet got a small one on our first visit. I didn’t notice any other bumps so far. It was challenging because the location was at the back of his head. I felt like I was in an episode of Grey’s Anatomy - Exotic...

Praying for Koda 🙏 Yes, antibiotics have been prescribed right away because there is inflammation inside the mouth.

My Sulcata hatchling has Austwickia Chelonae

I haven’t thought of it yet since that would be years away. But I think cutting them up in smaller pieces would be the way the go as what I’m doing now.

My Sulcata hatchling has Austwickia Chelonae

Greetings from the Philippines! 🇵🇭 Happy to update that my Shelly has recovered and has not shown any new lesions/yellow boils. However, vet said to continue monitoring closely upto 1 year as it may reoccur. After the first week of medication, removing any visible lesions, and losing the...

My Sulcata hatchling has Austwickia Chelonae

Sorry for misleading that I’m from California. There wasn’t a country option so just place California :) The tort was actually a gift to me a month ago but I do think it’s hatched in the Philippines. I’m not sure if it’s that common but I will ask the vet on our next visit.

My Sulcata hatchling has Austwickia Chelonae

Thanks @turtlesteve. Gives me some comfort. I do believe my tort is holding on so I should as well keep up with the prescription and regimen. Here’s Shelly with those bright eyes but with the lower beak gone now. gone.

My Sulcata hatchling has Austwickia Chelonae

Thanks for the well wishes. @Dustin Thanks for the questions. I’m from the Philippines and the name of the vet is Willie Wilson Nepomuceno. He’s well know among reptile enthusiasts and specializes on them. It was a visual test as my tort had 1-2 yellow bumps on the legs. Apart from that skins...

My Sulcata hatchling has Austwickia Chelonae

The prescription would last for 3-4 weeks then a follow up. The Vet is more keen to getting the mouth to close and the tort be able to eat on its own. There were torts at the clinic with the same issue and said they began eating in less than a week. So I’m guessing it still depends on the severity.

My Sulcata hatchling has Austwickia Chelonae

Prescribed Enrofloxacin as antiobiotic, Dermasin oil as topical application on the infected areas. Will need to be fed through a tube with the prescribed food and a list of regimen including wound cleaning and oral antiseptics. So far, the symptoms are external (from what I can tell) since...
