Oh gosh! So sorry I didn't see this till now. I would totally just give you one if I had any left! (TBO, I'm holding onto two babies for myself for now; they're just so stinking cute). Apparently there's a demand! Will definitely keep you posted if I find more (or change my mind about the two...
Ok
Ok great. That's super encouraging. I'll reach out again when I've run out of solid people to give them to locally. I'm not in a super rush since the babies are so easy to care for (once I set them up the way you told me to). I just don't necessarily want the babies to keep multiplying...
Hmm that's definitely a thought but I'm certainly not a professional by any means. When would the babies would be okay to ship? I've only ever handed them off to people I know.
Thank you for the tips! They've been living there about 5 years? I was hoping it would be big enough but my male kind of bothers the females a lot (like way more than I personally would like to be bothered). Sometimes I move him to the far end and he marches straight back to them. This is why...
So far, I've found ten baby hermann tortoises in my backyard in the last six months (8 in the last month) due to unintentional breeding (though I figured this might happen between my one adult male and three adult females; one female is supposedly sterile). The adults live in an area of about...
In what ways is it not as good? Trying to shore up my knowledge before making an informed decision. Thank you!! Also, in lining the hole, I just mold tin foil along the edge and it stays in place? I watched a Chris Leone vid where he just used gorilla tape to secure the lamp to the lid without...
I realized the adults were getting fresh water access from my irritation system and I've set up multiple shallow saucers to collect the water to make things easier for them. I'm not interested in rehoming them at this time and I'm hoping can figure out the enclosure thing for the babies as...
Ok yes. My home stays about 70 at night at its coldest. Actually, the reason why I'm asking about the tortoise enclosures in the first place is because my adult tortoises, who free roam in my secured backyard year round (in SoCal), have apparently been hatching babies, and I found a few babies...
How are the lights mounted
curious, why can't we cut a hole smaller than the incandescent basking light holder and set it on top? If I'm only using a 40-60w, will it melt the plastic if I set it on top? Did setting the light fixture on top somehow leave a gap that let out too much humidity...
Also curious. I want to use a large storage tote w lid to keep the baby enclosed for humidity. How do you affix the lights and still keep the container closed?
Thanks for your speedy reply, Tom! I have a hermann tortoise. I was hoping my home would provide the ambient heat and light so that I would only need one focused hest source for the basking area. Am I mistaken? Thanks again for bearing with my inexperience!
Thoughts on this bulb? Please excuse my ignorance. I'm just learning everything and it's a bit overwhelming! Curious, is this the only bulb I need since it provides both uva and uvb? I think I read it goes on during daytime and off at night since home is warm enough for a baby? Thanks so much...
Hi all! I have four hermann tortoises that live in my backyard in Los Angeles. Being a single mom to a human baby, I honestly let them take care of themselves. They munch on plants and brumate during the mild winters. There's no enclosure and I don't even provide a water dish (it just...
Do you just wiggle it off or do you have to yank it off? Does the glue remain on the shell or does it come off with the tile? Did the tile ever fall off unintentionally? How big is your tortoise? Can you post a pic with it and the tracker on? Thank you!!
