    My tortoise (Sulcata) has been whistling since he was a baby. it freaks me out... but usually loudest if he’s heavy breathing. I would only worry if it’s new.

    I went to Lowe’s and bought three sections of this black precut/prethreaded pipe and a little mount. Total was like $30 and it won’t budge. they have a huge section with it and various sizes... you can make something crazy or simple...

    Whistle breathing Sulcata

    My sulcata tortoise “Tator” is 3.5 years old he weighs 5.5 pounds (2.35 kilos). He whistles when he breathes... It’s been there since he was a baby but the larger he gets the louder the whistle is. It is most noticeable when eating or after exercise... Its almost as if his nostrils aren’t big...

    Do they come often or just a one off? Some motion activated sound devices (Amazon) will work to scare them away... but if that doesn’t work an electric fence would be the best (in addition to removing food sources and smells) check this Colorado document...

    Don’t use glass (ie: aquarium) or anything they can see through or over... They will constantly flip over trying to get through/over it. learned this the hard way

    Bert has a she-shed. Now Bert is getting a she-sheier she-shed. —- I’d get some insulation around the outside of the shed at the base. If there’s wind it’ll cool that floor substantially and is probably the easiest improvement.
