    Overgrown beak

Hello! I have not been on for awhile, but am struggling with an overgrown beak on my seven year old tortoise. He usually goes to the reptile veterinarian once a year for a trim. He has always had UVA/UVB lights and proper diet for his species. I feed him weeds and greens in full pieces on slate...

    Is this a Russian tortoise?

Thank you. I had the same concern. I have them in separate indoor enclosures, but I have allowed them to be in the larger outdoor enclosure together. The female will burrow sometimes outside, but the two seem to spend a good deal of time side by side without too many instances of the male...

    Is this a Russian tortoise?

I took in a pair of Russian tortoises that belonged to an elderly woman who was afraid they would outlive her. My reptile veterinarian is the one who recommended me to take them in. I was nervous to do so because they were not well cared for and are a male and female who have been housed...

    Hermann's tortoise nipping himself

I'm fairly certain my tortoise would eat anything and everything if he could. I posted a while back about him eating a pebble. They are supposed to be herbivores, but I'm convinced they are really omnivores. my little guy has nipped toes several times. I was just worried that he might harm...

    Hermann's tortoise nipping himself

Yes, I took another look at the dark patch on his upper leg and decided that it looks more like a skin coloration. I am going to keep an eye on it and hold off on the vet for a little while. IG: @tellablue

    Typical growth over first year?

Thanks to @tortoiseforum on IG for answering this so quickly on IG! I tried to figure out how to delete my topic here, but I can't seem to figure it out. IG: @tellablue

    Typical growth over first year?

I wasn't too concerned until I realized that my tortoise has doubled in size over the year I have had him/her. I have read that it is best to grow them slowly. Does this seem excessive in a year? I have tried to feed him/her a variety of greens, weeds, and occasional vegetables. Is it possible I...

    Hermann's tortoise nipping himself

    Hermann's tortoise nipping himself

Thanks for the response. I am going to call the vet. I don't see an open wound (the dark patch might just be skin discoloration, my tort seems to have lots of different colors), but I'd like to see what the vet has to say about joint problems (a google search I tried last night mentioned this as...

    Hermann's tortoise nipping himself

I have a yearling Hermann's tortoise that occasionally appears to be biting his front limbs. This happens outside of eating time and has occurred after a soak, so I don't think there is food on his leg. One of his legs has a small dark patch (perhaps from repeated bites?). Is this something I...

    Meet Robin :)

Glad to hear s/he ate. Always worrisome when they are off their food. I just measured my (not so) little one. It looks like 4" long and 3" wide (shell). Mine obviously has no trouble eating! IG: @tellablue

    Meet Robin :)

S/he's a cutie for sure! So little. My one year old Hermann's takes up my entire palm plus some. My little one loves clover, dandelion, and Hibiscus leaves. He is also a big fan of raddichio. I hope Robin eats soon. IG: tellablue
