This basically covers it but I would add that you can probably save yourself the trouble of checking with the pet store, they likely have no idea what they are talking about. If you are concerned about the health of your tortoise find yourself a vet that specializes in them in your area.

Yeah, it can be shocking the first time you see it but that is completely normal, lol. Turtles & Tortoises has some of the larger packages relative to body size in the animal kingdom.
This just highlights the tragedy of these animals being sold casually from pet stores to people who have no idea what they are getting into BY people who have no idea what they are doing. Such a shame.
I am not familiar with that terminology myself but I did find a thread on here that might answer your question: https://www.tortoiseforum.org/threads/captive-farmed.32557/
Yeah, unless it was in some peril (hanging out in the road etc.) I would recommend just leaving it be. There are heavy fines associated with even 'harassing' Gopher tortoises in Florida which even picking it up as you did for your pictures could be considered. Unless you are really worried you...
Years ago when I lived in Florida our Sulcata managed to get over his enclosure wall and disappear. We put up fliers and eventually a neighbor reported seeing him being picked up by a construction crew foreman who mistook him for a Gopher tortoise as he wandered down the sidewalk. (Why their...
Welcome to the forum! Sounds like you are off on the right track!
Often pet stores sell wild caught specimens, as opposed to captive bred, so any age estimate they gave you would likely be nothing more than a guess. Often people are told that they are babies because pet stores usually sell...
Here are some links for when you DO start thinking about moving them outside since I just saw them posted in another thread:

@Yvonne G I'm fairly handy with graphical software, if you ever wanted to create your own visual care sheets that have the most up-to-date and clear information I could see that being very valuable! Just let me know!
If they have a specific log they like to hunker down in for the night I would suggest at least getting an under-tank heatpad for during the night hours when your other heating elements are not on. A couple of $5 timers from any hardware store and you could set them to come on at opposite hours...
Once you transition your Sulcata to outside you will need to look into outdoor heating options for when it gets cool or prep to bring them indoors. You will find lots of heated doghouse type structures on here from people who keep their tortoises outside year round. Being coldblooded they do not...
