That is true! I didn't even check the date lol good idea. Cypress mulch is okay to use? From studies I have seen cypress was toxic due to the fumes it gives off when heated
Interesting — from what I’ve heard he’s always been a good example. There’s a care guide on here about Greek Tortoises which describes a mix of play sand and potting soil. Is that not an impaction risk? What substrate do you recommend? There is so many people with varying ideas of what’s “right”...
How does everyone feel about the newer substrate from exo terra stone desert? Just saw a video from Garden State Tortoise — and he says it’s one of the closest natural substrates out there for Greeks. Wanted to see if anyone has used it, or had any input. Thanks! 😊
Hey yall, I have a Greek tortoise and he’s healthy and active but almost like clockwork EVERY year (which makes sense) he gets to a point where anything that is in his enclosure he either rams into, or mates with. Rocks, driftwood, plants, etc.
Anyone have any ideas what to do for enrichment...
Will try that! Currently I’m using an Arcadia T5 8% UVB bulb (strip light). I measure w/ a solar meter so I know his UV is correct. It’s on for at least 12 hrs per day, that’s what I usually keep his cycle at
I have a Greek tortoise, and for the past week or so he’s been exhibiting some unusual behavior. He comes out to bask, normal activity during the day, but when it comes to eating he will only eat a few bites of greens. I’ve tried dandelion, radicchio, endive, plantain, even romaine (I know it’s...
Yes, they have checked literally every organ to make sure everything is working properly with multiple blood tests and the results came back that everything looks great
It’s just very frustrating because I’m doing all I can to hydrate him without soaking because I can’t right now, and it isn’t affecting his urates. I’m just confused
Greek tortoise
Substrate currently is paper towels because he NEEDS to have a sterile environment (after his bladder stone surgery, he is still healing)
Humidity is always between 40-60%
He eats all sorts of things!! Varied greens from the store, and weeds during summer because I live in a cold climate. He gets dried weeds from kapidolo farms on top of grocery store greens (plantain, mulberry, cactus, etc)
So, he eats all sorts of lettuce from the grocery store that are safe (no spinach of course). He gets dandelion, turnip greens, mustard, radicchio, etc. He gets TNT supplement, and I have a bunch of dried weeds from Kapidolo farm that I sprinkle every day for more nutrients
He had a bladder...
