He was just resting - he put it back into a more normal position and started walking around in it without any problems a few minutes after I took the photo
Yeah I meant if the temperature never rose. It would be nice to think that they'd somehow find a way to survive, but I guess things don't always work like that :(
Out of pure curiosity, If a tortoise was to be kept in ideal conditions to hibernate, how long could it hibernate for? Would it wake itself up when it begins to dehydrate and starve? Would it just die of starvation and dehydration? Or would it just wake up because it's body clock knows that it...
Nope, I've read enough horror stories about them to stay far far away forever! I did get a red one though - is it ok to keep it on overnight? How will they know when it's time to sleep? :)
That jar idea is brilliant! Thank you I'll remember that for the future! I went to the reptile store and picked up a new bulb first thing this morning so it's all good now :)
My heat lamp broke this morning, unfortunately it's Boxing Day and everywhere is closed so I can't buy a new one! I don't have any spare bulbs - what should I do? They're currently sleeping - but I don't want them to go into hibernation. Can they last a few days without heat?
I'm really...
Welcome! Reading through this care sheet is a great place to start learning how to care for your new tortoise http://www.tortoiseforum.org/threads/russian-tortoise-care-sheet.80698/ - Best wishes :)
This could be true, however they appear to be getting on just fine. They BOTH do like to sleep lots, but just one more than the other. They don't seem to have any problems with sharing each others space?
