    Question on inside enclosure

Thanks Tom! I know an 8x8 area is not large enough - but it's the best I can do for this winter. I have another room in the basement that's quite large - but it doesn't have heat to it and I will have to do some renovations to it. I plan on doing this over time and hopefully by next winter I...

    Question on inside enclosure

I absolutely agree 100% with everything you said. And I do try to get him outside when I think he will enjoy it. Someone on this forum told me that Sullys don't like anything below 65-70 - so that's what I've been basing his "outside days" on. Since I brought him back in the first part of...

    Question on inside enclosure

Hey Big Charlie! Long time no talk! My fear is that it gets way colder than the 50's. Yesterday it was in the 70's but the days prior to that it was in the 40's. Fall in Kansas is very up and down. But winters are just plain COLD! I've noticed that if I put Irwin out on "cold" days - he...

    Question on inside enclosure

WOW - that's a big set-up! I wish I had that kind of room for mine. Yes - my biggest concern in leaving him outside is the very cold temps. Like today it hasn't even gotten out of the 50's! If I had a hide/heat box outside he would spend like 4-5 months cooped up in it! I'm hoping that the...

    Question on inside enclosure

Also - thank you on the advice - I did look at the night enclosures in this section. I just don't think Irwin will do well outside in our harsh winters! I think he needs to be indoors in the winter months.

    Question on inside enclosure

It was my intent to never have him outside in the winter. I live in Kansas and we get snow and very cold temps. I'm trying to make an indoor enclosure with a "night box" in the enclosure. He is currently in a 3/12x5 Plexiglas enclosure and he does not have much room to roam. My new enclosure...

    Question on inside enclosure

Irwin is approximately 3 1/2 years old now. He weighs 25lbs and is roughly 22" long. He has been outside all summer (he absolutely LOVES being outside). But it's getting colder and he has been inside for the past 3 weeks or so. His inside enclosure is waaaayyyy too small for him. I'm...

    Concern about Irwin -

I did not know this - but it certainly make sense now..... once he got warm enough - he was STARVING!!!

    Concern about Irwin -

Yes - you were correct - he needed to be heated up! THANK YOU THANK YOU! My big Irwin is now roaming his domain - eating in his food garden and sunning himself in his rocks. His "barn" is literally a dog house - that I cut the opening bigger for him. I did tarp it on the inside and put dirt...

    Concern about Irwin -

Since I gave him a warm soak and put the CHE in his outdoor digs - he's been out and about the yard - happily munching in his food garden and weeds in my lawn! I should be able to take the CHE out in the next few weeks as it will start to get warmer during the nights where he won't need extra heat!

    Concern about Irwin -

Hi Big Charlie's dad! How are you??? I should probably clarify - this is ONLY IRWIN'S SUMMER HOUSE. He lives indoors in the winter! I put him out too soon and already cleaned out his indoor habitat. I would never leave him out in 40 degree temps! We are currently at 68-72 degrees at night...

    Concern about Irwin -

It's actually not closed up. It's what is on my profile picture. Literally a converted dog house. I don't close up the opening. I checked throughout the night and it did not overheat and got as high as 87 degrees. I turned it off when I took a break at work at approximately 9:30am.

    Concern about Irwin -

UPDATE ON IRWIN: Hello All - sorry I didn't let you know about Irwin yesterday - but I could not get onto the website until now. I brought Irwin in the house and gave him a very long and warm soak. While he was soaking - I went and put a CHE in his house outdoors. I then offered him his...

    Concern about Irwin -

I'm bringing him back in. I'm getting his indoor enclosure back together now. I have him soaking in warm water in the bathtub and have already called my vet! THIS IS HORRIBLE! I absolutely NEVER intended to hurt my Irwin!!! I really thought it was warm enough for him to be out 27/7 as he...
