Russian highly active but not eating... annually?

Thank you. How long is it normal for them to not eat for during the spring? I will not go back to that vet!

Russian highly active but not eating... annually?

Thanks for the reply! All of the temps are in the post (basking around 95, ambient between 75-80) except night which is about 65-70. And his 4x8 enclosure is being built as we speak, like I said in the post he will have it next month thankfully!

Russian highly active but not eating... annually?

Hi folks, Last spring, Clyde went through a period where he was extremely active, digging and running around his enclosure all day, yet stopped eating. Eventually he had watery eyes on and off and so the vet suspected respiratory infection and he was on antibiotics for a bit, and eventually...

Russian losing weight but active and eating

Yeah he is VERY active during the summer and doesn't stop moving and digging from sunrise to sunset! Since this post I have started feeding him 2x a day and his weight has increased a bit. We also just had a big temperature drop this week so he is slowing down, curious if that'll impact his...

Russian losing weight but active and eating

I feed him a pile that is about the size of his shell and he typically eats most of it when I put it out and then returns to it a couple times later on. I can increase the amount though as it is always eventually empty by the end of the day.

Russian losing weight but active and eating

Hello! Back in June/July, my tortoise Clyde wasn't eating and was diagnosed with a respiratory infection. He was given antibiotic injections for a few weeks, got his appetite back, and has been ravenous and active every day since. However, his weight appears to keep dropping. The first week...

Russian tortoise possible pneumonia? (Next step ultra sound)

Clyde has lost weight again... he's back in the 780s this week. He's also been a lot more active, and still has been eating decently every day, though he needed a little bit of prompting today (bowled over it once and then ate it when I put it back in front of him). I didn't track his weight...

Russian tortoise possible pneumonia? (Next step ultra sound)

Just wanted to update again for any future readers of this thread, since the threads I came across were largely left ambiguous. Clyde is doing fantastic. He is completely back to his normal activity level, wakes up autonomously, eats all of his food without any prompting, and his weight has...

Russian tortoise possible pneumonia? (Next step ultra sound)

Another update, it's been 2 weeks since the end of his antibiotics and he has eaten daily for the past 12 days and his bowel movements seem more regular. He is sleeping pretty much all the time however and needs to be woken up to eat, but he does go through lazy periods and active periods so...

Russian tortoise possible pneumonia? (Next step ultra sound)

Hi folks, a positive update! Clyde is currently eating for the third day in a row and he has had no eye discharge in about a week!! He's still not eating his normal portion sizes (and needs to be bribed with cucumber mixed in) but he's doing a lot better than he was. Thank you all for your...

Russian tortoise possible pneumonia? (Next step ultra sound)

Hi folks, an update. Clyde is 2 doses into the antibiotic with his next injection on Saturday. His eyes are completely clear now, however his eating is still very hit or miss. Some days he will eat his entire dish unprompted and other days like yesterday and today he refuses to touch preferred...

Russian tortoise possible pneumonia? (Next step ultra sound)

The vet just called back and said that the blood work did show increased inflammation but liver and kidney function and all was normal. He ate unprompted yesterday, though still only ate maybe a third or a half of his normal amount, but I was so stoked to see him eat without me having to feed him.

It was oxytetracycline/vibramycin... is that bad? I wish all the information I'm being given wasn't so contradictory 😭 I'll ask about those drops!

Russian tortoise possible pneumonia? (Next step ultra sound)

Hi! So this vet didn't agree with doing an ultrasound - she said that he probably wouldn't cooperate too well and even if he did, she didn't think it would give much more information than we had, especially because she wasn't as convinced about the x-rays as the other vet. She did see the...
