The hide by the water dish is too small for her to actually use to its there mainly as a view blocker so she can see everything at once, the water bowl is plastic (not slippery at all, it has some slight texture) and food bowl is terracotta. I have an incoming freshman lined up to take care of...
Moving Day took place a few days ago and I went in today to see how she was settling in. She seems so much happier in her new home and has started 2 separate burrows (small divets in the ground) she was napping in one under the uv when we walked in, the other burrow is in her old hide.
Big day today, the beak trim finally happend, she began munching as soon as I placed her back in the tank, and it looked a lot easier for her to eat. Unfortunately move in day has been pushed back a few days for her new enclosure but its coming up this week.
The marks are dust from construction after a quick wipe down, I still have to do a more in depth clean before filling it. As I mentioned at the top of the thread she is a class pet that I do not own but had gotten the chance to help her to the best of my ability. Classes are already over and I...
The new enclosure is officially finished and is ready to be set up, it will be set up with the new substrate, hides, and everything else and she will be moved in hopefully on Tuesday. She has been taken to the vet for a beak trim but they were unable to do it, so she's going back for attempt 2...
Good Morning everyone, today I finished listing out all the items that would be needed for the enclosure (besides the enclosure itself which is almost done!) The list has been approved, looked over and a few faculty members are willing to help out with the cost. My next step other than finishing...
Morning everyone, I'm now putting a list of items together for the enclosure, I'm working on the uv light and the heat emitter, what wattage heat ceramic emitter would you all recommend? And for the uv is a tube light better? I heard the bulb/coil ones were not great.
I found the Cypress mulch you were talking about and that link was super helpful for the coco coir so thank you so much for the suggestions and the link, I'm hoping 1 pack of each will be enough. That exactly what I had heard about sand but I figured I should ask to triple check what I had heard...
Is there anything else you would add to the substrate? As I'm struggling to find a large amount of the two main ingredients without breaking the bank, I've heard play sand can be good from some people, and from others I've heard it can be dangerous. Any suggestions?
I will be graduating in a bit over 2 weeks, so I can plan to add it as an addition when I go and build new enclosures for my two tortoises however to implement it will take some time, but anything bigger than what she has right now will hopefully be good. I have someone hopefully lined up to...
Today's bath felt like good progress, she used the bathroom in the bath which to me shows that she's getting enough water for her body to have extra that's needs disposing of, last Thursday I gave her mazuri pellets and she ate most of them. I am currently working on her new enclosure and due to...
I was out on Friday so we're back starting Monday off strong with a daily soak, she's already starting to show a bit of trust in me and was up and awake when I came in at the normal time to soak her today. She does appear to have some stuck shed under her front legs, I'm hoping the daily soak...
I just did a quick read up on MBD to look at the causes and it's seems very likely. Her enclosure right now is awful and I am currently planning the build for a new one that is the appropriate size, new substrate, better UV and heat lamps. I am also working on improving her diet, I just got a...
