Thank you Yvonne G. for answering the original question. I have a sulcata with the same issue. It’s difficult when there is a 120 ft area to maintain with a tortoise dogging my every step trying to see if my toes fight back. I have had to instruct my pet sitter to not enter the enclosure no...
I didn’t purchase my Sulcata; Bull Dozer is a rescue. His human kept him in a 10 gal tank and got tired of hauling him around when she traveled. Please note: there is no such thing as a free pet. There were health issues when I got him a year ago but all have been resolved. He has his own ‘Bull...
I use Debbie Meyer Green Bags that I purchase off eBay. I have a farm where I sell greens at markets and also provide for my sulcata, Bull. I soak the picked greens in ice water, shake off and store in the bags. They easily keep their freshness for a week to 10 days. I will say though, I never...
As an update on this, I met a tortoise and turtle breeder and introduced her to Bull regarding the shell injury. It just didn't seem to be healing as expected. She told me she did not think it was heat lamp damage but a fungal infection that she has seen in the past. She recommended applying...

I didn't t need to worry about heat light sources and enclosed habitats until the ice age hit here in central Florida last week. I've taken care of the enclosed habitats part but need help in understanding what is the best heat source. The manufacturer's don't provide a lot of info on the...
The age of the greens in the stores is a factor as well. Unless you are buying fresh from local farmers, the greens have been picked, processed and shipped to the store location.
Thank you and YES, it's not dead center on the shell but directly under the light where he hangs out and burning is a definite possibility! I have used heat mats in the past but this is the first time using a light. I will go with the Neosporin and have already moved the light.
I adopted this Sulcata tortoise about eight months ago. Age unknown: I’ve been told anywhere between two years and 10 years. He’s almost a foot long. With a better diet and probably general care and space he is growing at an amazing rate and the pyramiding appears to have leveled out. My...
