Hindsight is 20/20. Of course I am not a vet.
Considering all Bobby’s symptoms from the start I really think he had a respiratory infection, stressed him and ultimately died of kidney failure.
Based on everyone’s input this really makes sense.
I asked my son if he wanted another tortoise later...
So hard to tell. Thank you.
I had never heard of the kidney failure.
I bought him one of the cuddle bones but I never saw him touch it.
I had posted a yawn video and put up a post too, and someone said watch for excessive yawning. He didn’t seem to do it a lot but he did do it routinely. He...
I’m so upset about it, I won’t be getting another for awhile if I do at all.
If I do, I will buy a juvenile from a breeder on here.
Everyone on here seems very passionate and very concerned about the care of the tortoises.
If I knew then what I know now, I would have did that in the beginning...
He was a baby red foot. I got him from Redfoot Ranch.
I tried very hard to take proper care of him. I’m a novice so I know there is such a variable of things that I could have done wrong. It wasn’t from lack of trying though. We really wanted him.
thanks for everyone’s help during the time we had Bobby.
I have no idea what happened.
He had a uvb light, a heater emmiter, bought gauges for humidity and heat, monitored them, bought him all kinds of different foods that I got advice from here and scouring the internet.
Soaked him everyday put...
I’m going to wait a few dayswaiting for the mazuri before I take him to the vet unless he gets a lot worse.
He is safe outside during the day with shade and sun too. I’m going to keep him out there everyday for a few hours unless the weather gets bad, especially for at least a couple of days...
yes I use that heat emitter and a uvb light. I have forgot several times to shut off the uvb light at night because I don’t have a timer.
Is it possible this could be affecting him adversely?
I have been using the emitter and uvb together too because my uvb wasn’t putting out the needed heat.
I think I’m going to have to take him to the vet. His eyes look clear after he opens them and he holds his head up and crawls some but he does seem lethargic, even for a turtle. Sometimes he takes his claws and paws at his eyes a few times. I looked at them with a magnifying glass and I see not...
What is a coil bulb? It’s a bulb for Che, especially for that or suppose to be.
Maturi? I’m going to have to look it up I don’t know what it is or where to find it.
Thanks for responding.
I have tak en pictures of his food on a few days and it looks the same, except dried up in this enclosure.
Bobby is still not eating well or some days I don’t think he eats at all.
Even stuff he was eating like strawberries clovers dandelions bananas to stimulate his appetite he just doesn’t seem interested in. I boughr spring mix he wouldn’t touch it. I’ve tried rose leaves too.
Where do I find...
Update on Bobby. Still refuses greens in his pen. But will tear up on a banana or strawberry.
He is training me to take him outside I think. He will eat everything I offer inside he won’t eat in the house.
Gave him a small earthworm he hadnt had in awhile. Tore it in 3 pieces he ate it like...
hi. Those bricks are just around the hosta's. It woldnt work for an enclosure but yeah he was eyeing them! my enclosure will have to be screened for the top for sure. I have cats, he could become a snack. I found a cool enclosure on amazon for him that will last along time since he is so small...
My friend has a sulcata, and he eats like a champ. He is older then Bobby though. I am trying to take good care of him. I will try rubbing the cucumber on his greens to get him to eat what he really needs.
