    Baby Russian Staying Burried

Just wanted to come back and share an update on Digger. It took a little over a month of digging him out every day or so to feed and soak, but after having him for 3 months total now and the added UVB light, he's now not only coming out on his own, he's eating well, exploring ALL over his...

    Baby Russian Staying Burried

Ok, got the new bulb and fixture - and man it really puts out! Right now I have it along the top front of the enclosure near the glass. Directly under the bulb, it's reading about 5.0 - but on the basking spot it's reading about 3.3 (just about right from what I've read. Do you think this is...

    Baby Russian Staying Burried

Thanks again! Just for fun (but also out of curiosity), I placed a wireless IP camera in his enclosure to keep tabs on him when we aren't around or are sleeping. Also we now seem to be maintaining about 75% humidity.

One other thing... since you mentioned the MVB may not be the best idea. We just also purchased one of these: Solarmeter Model 6.5R Reptile UV Index Meter https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B076GXJFJG/?tag=exoticpetnetw-20 The Powersun 100W MVB is only about a month old now - but I am only...

    Baby Russian Staying Burried

Thank you!!! Really the only exposed area is the section of the screen cut out around the MVB - so I'm going to try taping some lighter foil around the fixture to get a better seal with the top of the enclosure. Also, we are now mixing the substrate by hand - hadn't thought about water just...

    Baby Russian Staying Burried

We took him to the vet after receiving him - and she guessed he was about 6 months old (you can kind of see him on the basking slate in the picture I shared. How old is still considered a hatchling? I think it was Minority2 who told me that overnight heating was not needed, and that they need...

    Baby Russian Staying Burried

The first few weeks we had him, he seemed to be on a fairly normal schedule where he'd get up shortly after the lights came on, bask, get a bath, eat, bask a little more, and then head back to his hide. Lately he's been staying burried and not coming out at all. 1) Is it ok to dig him out to...

    New Baby Russian Tortoise

We've got the basking area up to 95 now - that's about as warm as we can seem to get it with the Powersun 100W UVB (unless we cut a hole in the top of the lid and lower it some, which I haven't ruled out). I did think that adding a little more light than just the one bulb might get him a little...

    New Baby Russian Tortoise

Yep, we had read both of those links. Also, this seemed to be a fairly good/extensive care sheet: http://tortaddiction.blogspot.com/2014/12/baby-russian-tortoise-care-sheet-also.html Basking is 91-93, warm side 87-89, cool side 76-78, overnight lows around 71-73, hide is set for 80 on the...

    New Baby Russian Tortoise

Greetings all! I'm Dave and my wife is Vicki. She had been wanting to get a Russian tortoise for quite some time now, and with her birthday being just around the corner, I finally relented. She's been very excited ever since I told her it was a go - and she's been doing a ton of research ever...
