Throwing her bedding in her pond.

"A hair up your ***'" is a figure of speech meaning she got some wild ideas and carried out on these ideas. She is now very active. I fed her today and she ate like a starving hog. She senses spring I think.

Throwing her bedding in her pond.

My baby Eastern Box is throwing her bedding into her pond. It's not a big deal, but she is doing it for a reason. Maybe for humidity? Also, she will get a hair up her *** occasionally. Today she went medieval on her eggs and fruit. And gave me the EYEBALL! The EYEBALL is very disconcerting.

    Missing front foot

I found her on the bicycle trail and she had been run over but her front left amputated foot was fairly healed. It's calloused over pretty well and very muscular.

    Missing front foot

I think it's pretty much healed. Her front amputated leg is pretty muscular and the stump is getting very calloused. I have to find a reptile vet though. One thing I know is that typical heat lamps are not good for your turtle/tortoise. My EBT goes into her cave when I turn it on. She...

How Long Do Your Lamp Bulbs Last?

She doesn't 'hiss' at me very often now. I'm surprised they don't bite. I've seen her eat a spider! No problem with that.

How Long Do Your Lamp Bulbs Last?

My Eastern Box Turtle loves her substrate (Coconut Coir). And she has her cave! Bigger Tortoises/Turtles maybe be more problematic. An EBT will not get very big. And she is getting used to me, but still hisses at me and pees on me occasionally. EBT's are extremely tough reptiles, so she...

Rescued Turtle With Three Legs And Missing Foot

If the turtle is young keep it for a few years. My Eastern Box Turtle had a missing front foot and now the amputated foot is very muscled and strong but still raw.

    Missing front foot

I will. But she does fine for now. As far as I can tell she has no infection just a raw stump. She is gaining weight and is very active. Her appetite is voracious!

    Missing front foot

My Eastern Box Turtle was run over by a bicycle and is missing a front foot. It seems to be healing up but is still red and raw, but this front leg is getting very muscular. I keep her in a soft bedding. Since she is still growing I think it will heal over when she is full grown. It still...

How Long Do Your Lamp Bulbs Last?

I'm wondering about dispersed lasers for UV. Laser wavelength is very accurate and if you disperse them thru a lens they can produce perfect UV for a turtle or tortoise. I have to get a new heat lamp bulb. It does hurt her eyes but she goes into her cave.

    Pigging out!

I just put a few drops now and then in her substrate. Eastern Box Turtles exist in a complex vegetative environment, they must have a scent memory of thousands of plants. Leaving her in just a coconut coir substrate with no extra aroma stimulus may be bad. I know she lights up when I pour a...

How Long Do Your Lamp Bulbs Last?

I bought my baby Easter Box Turtle UV LEDs. I think they last over 10,000 hours. She also has red and blue (night time LED blue). She's getting tanned under them. I need a new basking lamp though. I don't know how long these last. They can bask under a restaraunt lamp but it irritates...

    Pigging out!

She loves the smell of essential oils. I just put a few drops in her substrate. And she instantly responds. You can use these for for cooking. A drop in olive oil of essential oregano, basil, rosemary, lime on top of pasta is the best!

    Pigging out!

She got run over by a bicycle when I found her. Her front left foot was amputated and her rear foot was broken. She's doing fine now. But I know her front left foot is still sensitive. I am weighing her and she is gaining weight - not so much during the winter months though. When she's is...

    Pigging out!

You won't like HER name 'Carbuncle'. But perfectly appropriate for an EBT. I've seen HER eat a spider. She's a baby and needs protein. I have a drier and it's even cheaper to feed her than pet store bought food. You can pack a years worth of food in a small mason jar and freeze it. I put...

    Pigging out!

My EBT is so spoiled that it reminds me of the Door's LA Woman! Most young or old people won't remember this. Steve McQueen in his 1968 Ford Mustang Bullitt GT! I drove a GT between Carlsbad and El Paso! Went way over 100 mph before my friend told me to slow down. The Car was rock solid...

    Pigging out!

Essential oils are very strong. Frankincense and myrrh are the ultimate. Although Myrrh is very expensive. These are what the Wise Men brought to the manger for the baby Jesus. I like the citrus, peppermint and clove. The smell of other true essential oil is overwhelming. I think she gets...

    Pigging out!

I made a special feed for my EBT that consists of dried apple, crab and eggs and a little reptivite. She is pigging out! I also sprinkle her bedding with essential oils and that's what she smells like. This is potent stuff so you only need a few drops maybe one or two times a month. I think...

    Why are tortoises so cute?

I wish I could get my Eastern Box Turtle (EBT) to eat her greens. She prefers eggs and fruit. And all things arthropod. They are cute!

    LED UV light

The LED lights work and it makes sense. The LED UV light is very specific. My little Eastern Box Turtle is tanning very nicely under it. She is eating her bedding and is blending in almost perfectly. Her heat lamp needs a different bulb. Food lamps do make their eyes hurt. But get a...
