    New hatchling questions

This is my oldest females 4th clutch and the second one of hers I've incubated inside. They all hatched great but I've noticed that several individuals have some changes in carapace color that I've been wondering about. I've seen it on other hatchlings of mine as well (even ones that hatched...

    Husbandry help?

Do you think there's any difference with air flow in the new location? What if an AC vent is blowing on her more and she's seeking coverage in the dirt? It also could be a good sign. Box turtles spend a lot of time burrowing. Being out and pacing would be the abnormal behavior. If she is...

Lost 2 Hatchlings before they fully exited the egg -help?

This was my previous set up. A box inside a box with some water and a ceramic heat emitter above it. The inside temp was usually 77-80. I never put water in the container with the eggs, just in the grey outside container. The humidity always read 99%. Not sure of that was accurate though.

Lost 2 Hatchlings before they fully exited the egg -help?

Thank you, that's very kind of you to say. I am definitely feeling disappointed and blaming myself for the loss. I am always trying to improve on my tortoise care and I beat myself up easily when I learn something new that I hadn't done before and wish that I had known sooner. I read tons of...

Lost 2 Hatchlings before they fully exited the egg -help?

I do not have lids on the containers. I can certainly put lid on. I have 5 more eggs in there now that have just started to show the pink embryo. The incubator and my temp probe both showed humidity to be 90%. I have the probe directly in the container next to the eggs. Is there a temperature...

Lost 2 Hatchlings before they fully exited the egg -help?

I pulled 3 eggs from a nest in April (I live in Texas a bit north of Houston) because the area was flooding. The eggs were very wet when I pulled them and they looked like they had just begun to chalk. I stuck them in the incubator and they began to develop just fine. Last week the first one...

Tortoise acting weird when picked up !

Several of my Hermann's do that when I reach to pick them up. I just take it as they are mad and being defensive. I only pick them up to move them quickly as to not prolong their unhappiness.

    Yet another shell question

I didn't want to put them together but ran out of room. I honestly wasn't anticipating this many babies this year. I am in the process of correcting the situation. I guess I was having a moment of feeling like a failure at something I thought I was decent at and was worried had caused harm to my...

    Yet another shell question

I had a layer of eco earth with cypress mulch on top. They are currently housed in a 3ft long by 18in wide plastic bin with 3/4 of the bin covered to retain humidity. I keep the humidity in the upper 70-85% range. Overall room humidity is typically between 40-65%. Yesterday upon inspection...

    Yet another shell question

These are eastern Hermann's. The September group did hatch outside but I was able to find 3 of them within 2-3 days of them hatching and brought them inside. They have been inside since. They seem to be growing well and have good appetites. They get a mix of produce and yard collected greens...

    Yet another shell question

Hi there everyone. I have come across this forum many times and read lots of posts, however I have never had a need to post until now. To preface, I have read all the shell related questions, but would still like some opinions. I am feeling like a bad tortoise keeper this month. I lost a 3...
