You have come to the right place for information about your tortoise!
As you are new to the forum, I recommend you read this: https://tortoiseforum.org/threads/info-for-new-people-please-read-this-first.202363/
This is the care sheet for Hermanns...
Yes, he is an adult male, not sure about his age, but he seems pretty much full grown. I suspect that he is well over 15 years old. Before me his diet was strongly grocery store based and he didn't get any calcium supplementation during his years at the shelter. But he did get some pellets for...
Yes, this was the point I was trying to gt through. I strongly suggest getting an outdoor enclosure when possible, but as everyone on this thread is pointing out there are things to consider. But all this doesn't exit out the need for a separate indoor enclosure in case of sickness or flooding...
This is really the reason why I went for a Russian tortoise instead of other tortoises/reptiles that might require feeder insects/animals. Even my isopod farm is a pet, not grown for food :)
Part of keeping snails and other invertebrates is that some find them disgusting or less worthy...
High 70s to low 80s is usually the recommended minimum temperature for Redfoots, so you would either have to build a heated shelter, where you would close your tortoise for the night or bring him indoors to a sleeping box or an indoor enclosure. As for heated shelters, Tom's night box is quite...
Your tortoise probably might not be able to be outside every day, not even in the summer. So when you build an outdoor enclosure, it is important to also keep an indoor enclosure set up and ready in case of bad weather. As for temperatures, this thread is great for research...
This tip is really important since tortoises weight can fluctuate due to eating, drinking, peeing and pooping quite a few grams. I also take a monthly average from Edward's weekly weigh-ins to see consistent trends.
I think that it is more important that there isn't any weight loss. And at that stage there should be always some gain week to week, no matter the amount.
Yeah, that is another important lesson. Every pet owner should have their first aid supplies ready. Also, many animals avoid showing that they are in pain and this seems to be true with all reptiles.
Using old threads is also all right, but this thread is almost 10 years old, I would use something newer if possible. Also, when you make a new thread, it will be seen better.
This thread is quite old. I recommend you make a new thread for your enclosure. But the short answer is no. If you read @Tom care sheet ( https://tortoiseforum.org/threads/the-best-way-to-raise-any-temperate-species-of-tortoise.183131/ ) you will find out that the minimum for a hatchling is 460...
1. To me it doesn't seem like the cold frame is doing anything with the light.
2. Since I got him in February I have been feeding his grocery store greens with rabbit pellets for fiber. On 13.4. I started to introduce Agrobs Herbs pellets. I now feed him 50 : 50 ratio of both pellets, since he...
You did your best for his last days, it is sad that he didn't make it. He probably wouldn't have made it this far injured in the wild. Hope that his story will be remembered as an example to cat owners.
We can better determine the sex if the picture of the tail is taken from the tortoises underside. Take a photo similar to the first photo on this post: https://tortoiseforum.org/threads/please-help-gender-my-tortoise.214936/
I suggest you run through your tortoise purchases and any questions you have through this forum!

This thread has great advice on sulcata enclousures...
Yes, this is why I recommend pallet collars that can be connected together, this type of enclousure obviously needs to be covered. Wellingtons greenhouse idea is also great. Anyway, you got to be ready to modify/build stuff yourself to make it work.
Thankfully OP came to the right place to upgrade the tortoises enclosure. I can't comment on how long the tortoise can be kept indoors, it really depends on the tortoise. I really hope that an outdoor enclosure is already being planned.
I have used pallet collars to build Edward's enclosure. They are also sold as raised planters here and I picked them because they are easy to connect to one another. This definetly isn't the chepest I have seen, but I used a product similar to this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B08B3WMFMV/?tag=...
