Thanks! I remember bumping it
I remember bumping it once pretty hard on the door of it's indoor enclosure as I moved it from its indoor enclosure to it outdoor enclosure, so maybe that is it. I checked and it doesn't smell. She is eating and drinking fine.
My 4 year old red foot is losing one scute. I will try to attach some pictures. Is this normal? If not, does anyone have any advice on what I should do. I live in a rural state with no vets familiar with tortoises.
no, just will eat a little, like one worm or two pellets, about every 3 days. I can't get her to eat any fruits or vegs and I haven't seen any stools. Very lethargic.
Thanks for your advice. How much piedialyte per 1/2 gallon of water and how much baby food carrots should I use per 1/2 gallon on water. Also, all she has done is stay in her hide the last 3 weeks unless I move her to soak her or try to get her to eat. At first I thought it was good to let...
Still not doing well. The only thing she will eat is a worm and ate about one worm a week since then. Today she started dragging one of her back legs. I have been soaking her daily and encouraging her to eat. I have not seen any stools since it happened. There are new vets here that know...
I had my four year old red foot in it's outdoor enclosure. I had a white five gallon bucket laying down in the enclosure and she got trapped in it during an 90 degree day. I think she overheated. When I found her she was standing in her own diarrhea, her mouth was foaming and her eyes watery...
There are tons of things that look like gnats in my red foot indoor enclosure. I thought I read somewhere that if you baked the substrate in the oven before you put it in the enclosure that it got rid of the gnat/larva. Does anyone know if this works? If so, how long and at what temp does it...
Thanks for everyone reply's as they are very helpful. The function of the heat cords would be supplemental heat and it will be a closed chamber. Do you think I would need them with a 100 watt CHE and a 125 watt Mercury Vapor Bulb? I am temped to try just the bulbs once I get the enclosure...
Sorry, for the typo. The enclosure is 6 foot by 3 1/2 foot. I put the inch symbol instead of the foot symbol. On the second post I just rounded so I didn't have to mess with the 1/2 symbol.
Thanks for your help. I have a few questions. If I am building a 6" by 3 1/2 ' enclosure, what is the length of heat rope I need? Can I get by with a 12" or should I go a larger one? Also, do a need to buy a thermostat for the heat rope? I have a heat gun, so I could test it and see if it...
I was just given a three year old red foot. I have read a lot on this website, so I feel like I have some knowledge. I live in South Dakota and so it is not ideal weather for a red foot. I want to have my husband build an enclosure over Christmas break, but I am not sure what all I need to...
