Wow that group is growing fast and beautiful. I would love to see some weight and length stats on them I agree with your sexing eye... 1.2 in that group. In my 6 from Tom, there is only one so far that looks to be female... Hoping for more of course.
Yeah I was not aware that Fife had any imported SAs. The 2 that I have remaining from R. L. I'm not sure if they are F1s or F2s or F3s etc. The 6 I got from @Tom are F2s at best. So the different blood line coupled with the fact she is an F1 is awesom.
Really great addition to your group. I especially like the fact that she is from a different blood line than pretty all other pps here In the US. That just may give me the incentive to get a few of her babies from you;)
Here are some individual photos of the group @diamondbp style;)
Since the beginning of June, they have been spending about 10 - 11 hours outside every day then sleeping in their indoor humid closed chamber each night. Here in Florida the summer months are the monsoon season so the humidity...
I just pick unique visual queues from their carapaces. According to my wife, I spend way too much time 'staring' at them... I prefer calling it 'carefully observing their behaviour'. ;)
Flo is still looking very male based on his anal scutes and has really started to put on the grams... he may be the heaviest one at their next weigh in.
My @Tom group of SAs turned one in mid May and they are all doing excellent:)
Police line up from left to right: Chip, Flo, 1 Dot Butt, Heart Side, 2 Dot Front (Shelly), 3 Dot.
Growth Chart in grams:
Very exciting indeed Byron.
So what is your pure pp group looking like these days? How many males, females ( and how many are laying), undecideds? I guess I could go through this thread and count but I too lazy;)
I third what Tom and Byron said about the head and neck not really being a distinguishing characturestict between sexes.
Very interesting observations about the hind legs and nails. I will defenently look for that as this group ages.
Sorry for your loss but don't beat yourself up (or the tort). Any one who has raised multiple hatchling will have similar stories. I've lost my share of hatchlings before I figured things out and that means my husbandry practices and that of the breeders.
I've purchased several 'normal' Leos...
Yes in sulcata the males do get quite a bit larger than females but in Leopards it depends on the local of origin as to which sex gets larger.
Most of the Leos available in the USA pet trade came from northern Africa, Kenya to be more precise, and in that region the females do get much...
