That's so tempting! With the amount of animals we've got, not even including the reptiles... this would help a lot!
I'm not a fan of preventative worming, which most people will do for livestock, so we get fecal tests done on the horse and alpacas every 4 months. That stuff adds up!
We have several raised bed on our property and we grow veggies year round because the weather here never gets horribly bad. And we use the alpaca, horse and chicken poop as manure... it works wonderfully!
This year I've confiscated one of the beds as a tort-food only area. If it's in there, it...
Weird, LLReptile is usually fantastic with their shipping; I order my reptile stuff from them all the time. I wonder if they just had a hard time getting the tubs from Vision?
If you want to use the Solar Glo bulb from Exo Terra, go with the 125watt bulb. That's what I have, and its about 13" above the substrate and I get the perfect temp gradient with that setup.
I'm curious about lavender, too! We have several huge lavender bushes growing around here... I know you can use the leaves/flowers to make tea, and its often used to calm animals.
It sure would be pretty in an outdoor enclosure.
I have a roach colony too! Though I use them as feeders for my geckos and skinks rather than pets...
Weirdest pet we have is probably the alpacas...
Tom, I'm having camel-envy. They're amazing animals!
Yeah, I knew Maples were toxic, but Maples are often confused with London Planetrees - they have the same looking leaf, but aren't related. The London Plane tree is in the same family as the American Sycamore.

Thanks for the welcome, Laura! Where abouts in CA are you at?
We definitely have enough room for a Sully(our first choice), but we're considering moving to TX(with even more acreage!) in a few years(3+), so we'll probably wait until after we've moved. It's one of the reasons its taking me a...
I have a London Planetree, fully grown in the area where I want to build my outdoor enclosure for my RT. Looked it up on google, and the only thing I could find is that the seed/pollen is an irritant to some people, and squirrels/birds like eating the seeds. No part of it is poisonous/toxic, as...
Thanks for your opinion, Jacqui! I mixed a little bit of playsand in with the coir, just about 15% or so, and it /does/ seem like it's a nicer mixture, and it doesn't seem to bother him any.
Hee! Yeah, there is a small airport here... and the casino is 5 min away from our ranch. :D I may...
Thanks for the suggestions! Very helpful!
The 50 gallon is a temp enclosure until I can build a tort table for him, which will be significantly bigger. :) As for outdoor enclosures, that's in the works right now. Wont be able to put him there 24/7, because even our summer nights get pretty cold...
Hello everyone!
I'm from Santa Ynez, CA (about 2 1/2 hours north of LA). I raise and breed alpacas, and also crested geckos. I'm new to tortoises, but certainly not new to reptiles or animals!
I just recently purchased a tort... a Russian according to PetCo, but I can never believe any of...
