Coco fibre as humid hide substrate

Hi all, I plan to use coco fibre as my humid hide substrate, but it seems very grainy. When I press my hand on the substrate, a lot of the pieces/grains stick to my hand. Is this going to be a problem for the tortoise? I wanted to try out cypress mulch, but we don't have it here in the...

    Is this shell rot?

Hi all, just wanted to update this thread. My tort is doing well, the shell rot is gone - i think. The bad smell is gone and the tort's underside is looking well (although the cracks are still there). Just wanted to ask regarding the tort's shell. It still looks the same as the one in the...

    Questions about my tort

Hi Dave. I'm afraid not. I just got him a few days ago and the seller didn't tell me the age. Looking at the shell pattern, I'm thinking this one's maybe a year and a few months old? I'm not really sure.

    Questions about my tort

I feed him a handful of kangkong leaves (it's a native veggie here in the Philippines) and some grass (but he just nibbles on them). What i meant by weak eater is that he doesn't finish his food. I think I give him enough so he can't finish it all but he doesn't even finish half of it. I'll try...

    Is this shell rot?

Here are pictures of the tort: We have strict import/export of animals here in the Philippines, but some people get away with smuggling some. As can be seen in the pictures, the tort is starting to pyramid - the shell looks bumpy. I hope it can still be corrected.

    Is this shell rot?

Thanks! Yeah, I was able to talk with the seller and I told him I'd try to treat the tort first. I'm treating the shell rot right now, I hope it doesn't affect his/her feeding. It's not really smooth, but maybe looks that way because of the pattern. It's actually starting to pyramid, I'll post...

    Help! Crusty underside

Thanks again for the replies guys. Here are some updated pics: I was hoping it wasn't shell rot but upon closer inspection, it looks like it because of the grey craters formed around the underside (i think). Also, the underside smells like "bad breath". I'm currently applying...

    Is this shell rot?

Hi again! I just cleaned up my leopard tortoise early this morning and noticed the following: Is this shell rot? The shell is tough when I touched it, doesn't feel soft at all but I have no idea what shell rot symptoms are. Just need confirmation if this is shell rot so I can...

The End Of Pyramiding II-The Leopards

Hi Tom! I'm new to the forums and was wondering if this new method of raising tortoises in a high humidity environment is applicable to juvenile leopard tortoises? I just got one yesterday and wanted to start right. I feed my tortoise grass and leave it outside to bask in the sun. It seems very...
