I'm looking for some advice for sexing my youngest spur thighs . I'm having some troubles with them recently and think it may be due to them being sexed wrong at an earlier age. I've attached photos of their "suspected" sex.
They both have a slight concave underside but i'd say the females is...
Talloolah had another check up today. She's gaining weight, eating more everyday, less congested although still very snotty. It's early days but the Vet was delighted with her progress in just 10 days of antibiotics :tort::):<3:
Update: Talloolahs new home for recovery, it's far from the whole garden that she's used to but will allow me to keep a good eye on her for the next few months whilst she fights through her poorlyness :(:tort:
To be quite honest I don't know! We've only had her 11 years and the previous owners told us she was about 30. But we believe she was wild caught so I assume it has caused some confusion at some point in the time line. The Vet performed an xray and an ultrascan before suggesting the age...
Thank you for the support! Got a call from the vets today saying that they have done some tests on her poo and she has worms too but that's the least of my worries at the moment! It's amazing how much they can hide their ill health until its critical :(
My Asia minor tort has been diagnosed with severe pneumonia as mentioned in my previous posts and is under strict instruction to be housed indoor until fully recovered. She has always had full roam of our garden so setting up an enclosure is new to me.
She's 9inches long (2.8kg) so will need...
So the other day i posted a thread regarding my 40 year old Med spur thigh possibly having RNS and being put on Baytril antibiotics by a 'regular vet'.
I decided yesterday that i wasn't happy with the choice that I made to go to a regular vet and had a gut instinct that she needed to be seen...
Fab thanks, so many different opinions there haha. I took a couple of pics from my female, she's 9 inches along the underneath and 2.83kg. are we still saying Ibera Greek torts?
They have been together for over 40 years and never had any problems, they willingly sleep in the same enclosure of a night and have free run of the garden throughout the day. Surely if there was a problem, it would have happened within 40 years together?
When she wakes up in the morning I'll measure her, she's 2.8kg. And thanks for the tips! I've never had a poorly tortoise before it's really horrible to see
They are outdoors all year round including winter as they hibernate themselves so to speak. They went away in the end of October and started waking up April time
We've taken her to a 'normal' vet at the moment who has given the antibiotics, although if it hasn't cleared at all by the end of the week I will be looking for an exotics vet
We got our two largest tortoises almost 11 years ago (they are now 40ish). The previous owner didn't know much about them but did say she thought they were African Spur Thighs, which I'm now positive they're not, but cannot work out what they are.
The female is larger, weighs 2.8kg. Male is...
I returned from holiday one week ago to find one of my tortoises to have very loud breathing and a runny nose, since then she seems to struggle to breathe from her nose from congestion and it is constantly running (and bubbling). We've taken her to the vets and they have put her on daily...
