Buying succulents online?

Has anyone bought a succulent plant online? Or do you suggest any plants that I can grow here at home? I live in Illinois and would like to start growing some plants now before winter hits. I would like to feed her as much fresh food as possible during the winter months.

The only plants I have bought online is cactus pads. Just stick them in some dirt and they will begin to grow. You have to be careful ordering live plants in the summer because the heat will kill them especailly if they sit on your doorstep for a while.

An alternative would be buying greens from the grocery store. Where I am they have plenty of organic greens like dandelion, kale, collards, romaine ect.

I have been told that sedum (a type of succulent) are the best species. Some succulent such as Jade plants I know may be toxic to certain animals, from dogs to reptiles and even horses. This link doesn't address tortoises in particular but it's a handy guide, a sort of second opinions.
