Hi Everyone,

I have been reading as much as I can on these fascinating little guys and I have noticed while looking at pictures online, they can have very different markings and colors on their shells. Please forgive my ignorance but I'd like to ask does the shell color differ from males and females or regions they are from? I think I read in another thread there are not different subspecies of pancakes. Is that true? Just really curious to ask the pancake experts. Thanks!

Not an expert by any stretch of the imagination but there is no difference in markings color between males and females. To my knowledge this is true of all the tortoises. I believe there are some differences between male and female turtles of some specie but I'm not the one to respond to turtle inquiries. Hopefully this helps and doesn't just muddy things further for you.
