how soon before they start getting horny?

One of our torts seem to enjoy mounting the other a whole lot. They are barely a year old. We don't even know their sexes but from their behavior... We suspect the bigger one could be a male. Any ideas?

It's a dominance thing that both males and females do. They are establishing who's boss.

If it turns to biting and butting the subordinate tortoise may well become withdrawn which can lead to illness and death... so you must them separate them.

For the time being, just keep an eye on them

That's probably why I got fired at my last job.


At that age it is dominance, once they reach puberty, it may happen more often.

That is why I am building a Twin Enclosure for my 2 little ones. They each need their own space to grow and be the best little Torts they can be!
