Is Carpet Moss harvested from the woods safe?

I have a bunch of beautiful green carpet moss I want to use in my Leo enclosure but wanted everyone's opinion before I use it. It came from a sand/dirt mix up in Michigan. I planned on cleaning it with fresh water to rid and possible bugs and such before using it but I just wanted second opinions on whether others feel it's safe. Thanks for your time.

I use it with no issues. I took it right out of my yard to transplant.
