Hi all, I'm new to the forum I have two horsefield torts called Bombay and sapphire- they are now four years old and I have had them since they were babies. We live in the uk and they have a tort table inside for the winter and a garden for the summer. They have always got on really well until the last couple if weeks. We suspect Bombay is a boy - but we aren't really sure on either .. Any help would be gratefully recieved

Welcome to the Forum!

Your tortoises are big enough that we should be able to tell you what gender they are. Show us pictures of their underside including the tail and we'll give it a go.

Nice-looking habitat, but too bad there isn't some ground cover for them to munch on.

If you do have a male and a female, the male will pester the female all the time. You might think about making two enclosures so you can separate them.

I think you're right in assuming Bombay is a boy. His long, hooked tail says yes. As far as Sapphire I can't really tell but her tails looks stubby in one of the pictures. Either way I know Russians tend to be bullies. Best to let the other tort have some peace.

Hello and welcome...i believe your assumptions are correct..by the way. Do you have sand in your enclosure?

Most people don't like sand because when the tortoise eats, it can track sand on to it's food and cause impaction. This sometimes is fatal to tortoises.
