Yeah was just going to say Neals thread is awesome. I'll try and find it for you. Id say the main difference is the amount of black spots. Babcocki tend to have one or none. Pardalis have more than one. Also body shape differs.

Laura the cross breeds are harder to detect. I'm fairly certain mine is a cross due to the fast growth and robust personality, and the fact that the breeder has both south africans and babcocki. She was only $100 plus shipping and I'm happy. :)

Mine HAS to be Babcocki. Really slow growth, muted personality, and not a single spot :p sounds like you got a very good deal! Mine was £230 but I love her to bits so it's all good :)

Aw...she looks nice. I know they're a bit more expensive across the pond. Even in Canada. But we have climates over here where they're easy to breed, like the southwest and California, which is why they're so much cheaper.

Benny is pretty outgoing. He comes to me when I put my hand in his tank - hoping for treats I suspect. However he isn't very large and because I adopted him, I'm not sure, but the guy I bought him from told me he paid $600 for him. I don't know if that's true or not.
He has one spit to each "plate", sorry I need to learn tortoise anatomy still. I'm a bit overwhelmed at the moment trying to make sure I'm just caring for him correctly.
I'm going to try and find that thread Tom, thanks.
