Just got back from the Chicago Herp Society Reptile Fest. First, sorry, I forgot a camera:( I had a good time going and seeing the reptiles. It's a nice show, no selling, just for education, mostly. However, I could not believe the way a couple people were housing their torts and the mixed species.:( Most did say it was only for the show, not sure that's really safe. There were two I wanted to go nuts on. The one still used rabbit pellets and had boxies with a russian:( The other had bins with three different species together. Leopard, marginated, and two redfoots. I tried, but am sure I didn't get any info through the idiot look on their faces. I am angry though that these kinds of people are trying to educate the public through a reptile society venue. They should know better, ugh:( Luckily, there were better educated tort owners there giving out good info:)

Too bad you didn't bring your camera. There are never any shows here in Central California and I like to live vicariously through our members' visits.

I won't forget it again that's for sure. I am going to see if my friend that went with me can email some of hers. However it's off her phone so not sure.

I was excited, then suddenly sad once I read that you didn't have any pictures. Shame on you. I bet you kicked yourself though. Anything unique there that you saw?

Ive never heard of that herp fest! Sounds pretty cool though, you gotta post when there's going to be another one, I only live 45min the from city. I do love going to the N.A.R.B.C. in Tinley Park when that comes around.

My understanding is this one is only once a year.
However, have you ever gone to the Scott Smith animal expo? Every first Saturday and third Sunday of every month. I haven't gone yet, but plan to in June or July. They have reptiles, along with other animals.

I know, I'm sorry. I won't forget again for sure. I was surprised to see a couple hinged torts, and a desert tort. Also a couple marginated. One was really pretty. Looked like Kerryanns. The biggest snake I have ever seen, a restricter of some sort. His body was the size around as a large mans thigh. I can't remember now the name of it, but a guy had two of the lizards that runs on top of water. They a beautiful. Hopefully my friend can email some of the pics.

Sounds like me when I go to a reptile show. *whispers to my mom* "these are such bad enclosures. I mean look at that sulcata! It can barely fit in its tub!"

Exactly, except I was with a friend and I didn't whisper:)

Here are the pics from the Reptile Fest. Can you guess which torts belong to an owner that I was nice real nice too and had the dumb look on their face when I tried to explain certain proper things?

That last picture of the sulcata is cute. He's a looker for sure... Reminds me of a dinosaur face. :)

I'm discouraged by the high prevalence of pyramiding that I'm seeing in pictures of redfoots. I wish people realized how easy it would be if they just kept the humidity up!

Yeah I'm pretty sure I've been to the Scott Smiths all animal expo, wasnt exactly the best reptile show I've been too but if you've been to the N.A.R.B.C. its hard to compare. But the last time I went my brother bought two full grown beautiful crested geckos for 90 bucks from some kid n they were definately like $150 lizards. But it was cool to see some of the other critters people got out there to sell.

Cool pic's by they way!

This wasn't the Scott smith show. This was the Herp Society. That's what makes this more disappointing. The pic of the mixed species of torts on pellets:( a couple people at this one didn't have a clue. Like the person that owned the Red foots, another one with not much going on upstairs. They just didn't get it. You know the kind, they know everything kind:(
