71AF2CE5-8698-4FBE-8245-609305A2D2B0.jpegI recently adopted a 11 year old MBD sulcata on Saturday. Today we noticed he has wounds on both of his front legs. One is on the underside of his arm and the other two are on the side and top of his other arm. It looks as though the skin has been pealed away. Has anyone seen this? He is now on injectable antibiotics and we are putting betadine on the wounds. Are these from fighting? Shell rubbing? Some disease process?

I'm sorry, but the picture isn't showing the wounds clear enough for me to offer an opinion.

Yes sorry I was just circling the general area. They are covered in betadine so you can’t tell what they look like. I’ll try to get better pictures

Looks like his shell is doing that. Did the vet say anything about maybe filing down the shell in those areas? It would bleed, but the vet has the proper things to quell the bleeding. You might consider taking the tortoise to U.C. Davis. They have an excellent reptile veterinary practice there.

It just looks like contact sores, like his shell is rubbing. Could his shell deformities make it so scutes point at the wrong angle or something?

I work at a vet hospital so my vet took a look at him. We thought it was the shell but then couldn’t figure out the one on top of his leg. I’ll take him to the specialist is Roseville. Davis isn’t seeing anything right now. They cancelled my neurology appointment for the tortoise I posted about several weeks ago that has seizures.

That’s what we were thinking but can’t figure out the one on the top of his leg

My tortoises legs are doing something very similar. My vet said it was abrasion wounds but his shell doesn’t look sharp at all, my vet even said his shell wasn’t sharp

His shell wasn’t sharp either but was putting enough pressure to cause wounds. I am happy to report that he went under anesthesia and had a drastic shell trim and is doing great now! The wounds are definitely healing.
