I couldn't find anybody who made 2-storey habitats. I found a company in Alberta, Canada (I'm in Canada) that said they would have a go at making one but it was going to cost thousands. They said they needed to play around with the materials first to make sure they made a sturdy design, which...
I had the big main pieces cut by the company I bought the sheets from (they jiat charged me for cuttingservice). They gave me all the scrap pieces after cutting it and I used these to build the smaller details like the supports for the ramp.
I used a jigsaw and really coarse sand paper for the...
To be honest, I had to wing a lot of it because my measurements ended up a little off and I had no experience. I had to glue some smaller pieces together (like for the window frames) to cut down on cost too because I was essentially making 2 enclosures. The material is not cheap plus I paid for...
I'm happy to answer any questions but I would start with the above mentioned post. It has a lot of valuable information and a more basic structure than what I made. My 2 levels come apart in case we ever need to move it and the planning/building is much more complex than a 1 level.
There's substrate on the second level and non-slip strips on the ramps but not the landing area between the ramps. Do you think I need substrate as well as non-slip strips or would strips do? He seems to be managing fine.
I splurged and made myself a PVC enclosure.
Took months of designing, planning, and getting quotes for the materials and a week to build (with my husband and kids' help).
I'm so happy with how it turned out and our little Russian is getting used to his new space.
I was hoping for 3x5 or 3x6 if I push it.
@wellington , yes, you're totally right. Even 1 bin costs $30 CAD. I've already bought 2.
Here's the little guy/girl.
I have a 1 year old Russian and I was wanting to build an indoor closed enclosure. Things is that I'm short on space so it was going to be a 2 level structure so having multiple bins also wouldn't work (and mine seemed to become brittle quickly).
I've gotten multiple quotes now for both custom built and for the materials to DIY but it's just not affordable for me at the moment.
What material would be the best alternative?
Yes, it's for a 1 year Russian and yes, I'm trying to get close to the 4x8 sizing. I can get 30 square feet with the design I have so far and he has a wheel right now that he loves so it should be good for awhile I think.
I looked at 5/8" thickness cellular PVC sheets today and was surprised...
I wanted to have a 3'x5'x3' (DxWxH) enclosure with a second level to maximize square footage. I got a quote to have it custom made but the cost is way out of my budget. I'm going to try to make one myself but have a few questions.
If it's 5 feet wide, how much support/cross bracing am I going...
No, I think it may have been my humidity. :( I thought I was making it humid enough but didn't have a hygrometer until recently when I noticed the slight pyramiding and I don't think I was spraying it down enough. Since I've gotten the meter, I've been checking it constantly! I'm looking at...
