Tony the tortoise, does he thrive on wondering or does he hate me?

I think they do it to drive us crazy, lol. My 85 pound 11 year old sulcata Ani constantly tries to tank through the fence of my yard which should be paradise for him with all the grass and trees and little pond. Yet we've had to repair more than a few loosened boards. He had his first...

How do I make his hide more enticing?

Snapped this pic of the winning situation from just outside my front gate. Annakin Skywalker is sleeping in today, though you can't quite make him out in this pic

How do I make his hide more enticing?

Update. First, we made the cave smaller, but Anakin still wasn't interested. My boyfriend tried physically putting him in there one night, nearly threw out his back, but Ani just walked right back to his usual spot, lol. Finally, we just moved the darn cave to his favorite spot, though it...

How do I make his hide more enticing?

Lol, you make it sound so easy! Anakin is over 100lbs. "Putting" him anywhere would involve two guys and a wheelbarrow. Boyfriend is coming over in a bit with his tools to redo the tortoise house. Wish us luck!

How do I make his hide more enticing?

Cool I'll definitely try make it tighter, and the entrance at a different angle. It is up against my back fence and under a bunch of low, leafy branches, you just can't tell in the pic. I just had his food dish in there to entice him in for a picture, normally it's elsewhere. Very helpful, thanks!

How do I make his hide more enticing?

An artsy friend of mine made Anakin Skywalker an awesome hide! Now....how do I get the big guy to use it? Right now he only goes in if I put food in there. He's chosen a spot that I absolutely hate for his nighttime sleeping hole. It's right by my front gate, and when he digs it makes a huge...

Update on my new big guy

Thanks for those suggestions! I live in a city, no feed stores, but the local petsmart sell mazuri tortoise. I've been surprised to learn how many people on this island own tortoises! When I first posted a pic on social media, friends kept asking me "is that so-and-so's tortoise?" always a...

Update on my new big guy

"Ani" , the 10 year old male Sulcata I acquired a few weeks ago, seems have come out of his proverbial shell once the weather warmed up a little and he relaxed into his new yard. He eats from my hand, so far his favorite treats seem to be bell peppers and starcluster flowers/leaves. The other...

Active on first day, now not so much

Hmmm his old owner said he'd stay under the house on cooler days I wonder if he had access to a hot water heater to cuddle up to. Luckily this "cold spell" will pass in next day or two we should be back into 80's. He was very active when I came home from work today, exploring the perimeters of...

Active on first day, now not so much

Anakin still doesn't seem too interested in food or exploring, but by this afternoon we should be up from low seventies (yesterday) to high seventies, so hopefully he'll perk up. Day before last he ate some of the salad I offered him, plus I saw him take a bite of a starcluster flower in my...

Active on first day, now not so much

Thanks guys! I can't wait to see what his personality will be like once he settles in. Like I said, so far he's nervous and sulky, but his former owner said he was very docile, that his 3 year old neighbor could hand feed him no problem. I've noticed he's very disciplined, puts himself to bed at...

That's Anakin. Today was only mid 70s and overcast so I expected he might not eat. The rest of the week was low 80s daytime.
