Yes, I've had her since she was a hatchling. I have some nice pics of her from September, before I left, but they're on a different computer. She's got smooth growth in them, and I can upload them if people are doubting what I'm saying. I realize it's kind of a crazy claim. And yes, the habitat...
Yes, it seemed strange to me, too. I think the enclosure was bone dry, and she was fed a very improper diet, but I still feel like that's not enough to cause this change. Would it make a difference if she were a little younger, maybe 2 and a few months when I originally left? The program was...
So I've had Bean for 3 years now and she seems healthy and happy. I thought I was doing well taking care of her, and she didn't seem to have any pyramiding issues. I'm in college right now, so I was pleased with myself for taking care of her on my budget and everything.
I guess long story...
Bean was getting too big for her Christmas box enclosure. She, ah, managed to escape when one of the cats I was fostering pushed a lamp out of the way of a roof hole.
So, she needed a place with higher walls.
It's still a work in progress, obviously. And I only have pictures of what I'm...
I only have Bean, with no plans to get another. Maybe I would get more than one, if I had one of the smaller breeds, but I'm probably going to be living in an apartment for a long time and I don't want her to feel crowded. She's also such a pig I'm fairly certain she'd bully anyone who tried to...
Yeah. I don't see that sentence anywhere on the screen...?
Anyway, I've gotten enough information here, I think. Thanks everyone! I'll keep up with the routine and see how things go for the next week.
So Bean had some white spots on her shell and some soft, brown stuff happening on her plastron, as well as a couple of white spots. I compared this with some pictures on the forum and figured it was shell rot, so I treated with Betadine and an antifungal cream.
How long should this treatment...
I've decided that Bean is the best tortoise ever. She's so funny to watch. And she eats right out of my hand.
There's some white discoloration on the bottom of her shell. I think it might be from where the egg sac used to be?
Bean arrived yesterday! She was energetic right out of the box, had a nice, long soak, and ate her first meal of hibiscus leaves and melon.
Sorry for the picture quality. I don't have a camera, just my phone.
Then, earlier this morning, I fed her again, to see if I was feeding her...
Spazzy - I think it's something like 70 inches by 30 inches?
Firework - Really? Have you seen it happen before? Is it because the bulb is so bright? I can suspend the lamp if it's a problem. Should I do the same for the heat lamp?
Any hormone disrupting or neurologically damaging pesticide would be a cause of concern, I think, but other pesticides can probably be washed off. Fertilizers shouldn't be a problem, either. (I'm approaching this from an enivronmental science major's perspective, not necessarily an experienced...
Yup! It's also has wheels, so it's super convenient.
I'll angle the heat lamp differently, and also change the orientation of the hide. Thanks so much for your feedback!
This is my new RF hatchling enclosure. It's not done yet. I still have a sedum plant I want to stick in a corner, and a hardy hibiscus I'm going to grow right next to it (if it lives, haha).
I have squash seeds, clover, and violets growing there now, all very small baby plants as of yet. The...
