    Hibernation

I got a Marginated tort last year, worked him and didn't hibernate. He's about 7yo. I've read posts saying hibernate for a month the first time then 2 months, then 3 months. He's slowed down so I feel like I should let him sleep now - I'm in the UK, should I use lamps to keep him awake until Jan...

Help Checking Brumation Preparation Procedure Eastern Hermann

Hey, sorry to see noone has gotten back to you. I'm in the same situation as you I'm afraid so can add nothing other than make sure you out holes in the box and open the fridge door daily for air flow. Good luck with your little one, he looks healthy to me!

    Bouncing back from worming treatments

Not that it's really relevant but I green up a farmers daughter, I can tell a slightly sick animal if I see them, I'm starting to thibk I read top much about the worries of hibernation over going with gut feeling. My gut says wind down and do a slightly short Brumation, wake smaller one up at...

    Bouncing back from worming treatments

OK so as long as they feel a healthy weight for size and shell and they are going off food I take it you would go with what they are telling me, start the wind down. I am very fortunate with my vet she has always had Tortoise and she said ignore all the scales/worry if they are looking bright...

    Bouncing back from worming treatments

OK thanks. I will check weight againt Jackson scale thing. I just read that after worming their immune system can be a bit low that was my main concern really. I think the smaller of the 2 really wants a rest, I was having to try to get her to eat now with warm bathes to get the worms all past...

    Bouncing back from worming treatments

They had been munching fine although probably helped by the fact they were eating crispy bagged salad to be extra watery and flush the worms through a bit better. Appetite tailed off this week as the weather has gotten colder... OK, will do see what the other 2 think as well. Thanks 😊

    Bouncing back from worming treatments

Hey, Both torts successfully worm free. My question is how long to let them recover before winding down for hibernation? Younger is still chomping away but older is properly off her food as she knows it's wind down time, feel bad trying to get her to eat everyday 🥺 Lizzie

Any help is appreciated... Thank you in advance!

I'm so glad you rescued the little guy. I took on a Herman 6 months ago. She is 12 according to her paper work but weighted 102g, 9cm long and was essentially hollow. She has put on 50g since then (horrid eye infection so she couldn't see her food). No signs of growth yet but I'm sure once her...

    Chamge in behaviour

Hi and thanks. Yes I'm making sure it's at 32 under her heat lamp and have bought day light bulbs for the room her house is in. She's is having warm baths everyday for 20 mins. If it is her urge to hibernate will it likely pass in a few weeks? I'm a bit worried if she doesn't want to eat she...

    Chamge in behaviour

Hi, so. First year of having a little Hermann I adopted her a couple of months ago with very bad eyes (trip to the vet and antibiotics cleared that up) but also very under weight - probably as she couldn't see. She's putting weight on slowly and now 130g she is 10cm long. Because of these...
