My make Russia is around 5-6 and ready for hibernation if i decide to let him hibernate this year....(any ideas on hibernation please)....my main question is....what do you think about keeping my tortoise outdoors providing a rig up some heat source and light , only thing is he's too big now for...
For a while now my male tortoise has being asleep, he usually is ok and quite active but for some weeks now he doesn't seem to come out for food and if i encourage him out he won't eat or maybe just has a nibble and goes back hiding , why is this? Don't want him getting ill etc his temps are ok...
The heat is at around 82 degrees Fahrenheit 12 hours a day and at night the temp doesn't drop any lower then 60F , the enclosure is big enough as she is only small at the moment , as for the shell it's nice and hard only the plastron is a little spongy .
It's a fluorescent tube light but obviously it's uv, as for the heat light its just a 60w heat lamp, have not had chance to post a picture as if just finished work, if you look at my profile picture that's the habitat it's in.

My tort is a horsfield not entirely sure but think its a female , and I read recently that there was some sort of formula , think your right with the Jackson formula thing , I was wondering if there was a weight that is sort of seen as a good weight or of a tortoise is underweight etc
Hi
I weighed my tort for the first time a number of weeks ago after reading that it's important to know your tortoise gains weight ok.
Does anyone know of any ratio or average weight of tortoises at centre lengths or ages?
Thanks
